link to a suitable optical to co-axial SPDIF convertor

$13.50

As Ian says above, don't go the ADC route, keep it digital.

All the best,

Steve

No don't buy that, you want to keep it digital.

Go for one of these...

Optical to Coax at BHPhoto

No Darling, I've had it months!

I had the same simple setup with my first DSP5000, works perfectly.
Even if the converters are cheap... they are probably better quality than the digital circuits in the tv anyway.

Hey everybody, thanks for all the recommendations and advice!

I ended up purchasing a fairly cheap optical to coax converter from Amazon (Syles actually linked to the exact one). Result is I've got some pretty nice sound coming out of my 5k's now!

Can't thank you all enough, and hope once I learn more about sound systems I'll be able to help someone else in turn.

Bit of a thread resurrection but I have a similar question to that posed in this thread.

I have a pair of DSP5200SL in the lounge, not really being used much these days.

I have been looking into using them for TV duties.

My TV has an Optical out in 3.5mm jack format.

The 'optical to coax converter' mentioned in this thread wouldn't work for me as mentioned above.

Along similar lines would I need a 3.5mm jack to SPDIF cable, from TV one of these converters and then coax from converter into Master DSP?

Cheap suggestions as above welcome.

I will start another thread in the HT area regards to Meridian Processors... if I were to go down this route.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

The same arrangements would still apply _ you'd just need to set up the speakers to use the non-SL connector.
The jack connection allows for an analogue audio output or an optical output. For the optical output you need a 3.5mm adapter for the (TV) end of the cable.

Given the used price of a 565z3 or 562 is in the £100-£250 range, you may find that a far better solution with the added benefits of integrated comms, multiple inputs and even DD/DTS decoding depending on the device and its capabilities.

Thanks bxd for confirming what I thought....as one approach.

Gianni, I'll start to look at what may be the better long term approach and invest in a processor....I have a few questions on that.

I'll create another post in the HT section.

Thanks Again
