When I want to export a FLAC copy of a CD ripped to Sooloos I use the Export tab on the Album Details pop-up, click "Mark All" to select the tracks and let Sooloos do its thing.

But what about doing a full export of all the albums?

It seems that I should follow the sequence: Export - New Export Destination - Folder (Native Format) - Add Folder Destination

Does selecting the tick-box "Export All Sooloos Tracks and Playlists to this Repository" do literally that? Or do I have to somehow select the tracks in every album?

I propose to do this process writing to an HDD attached to a laptop (with sleep mode disabled) which is attached to the same dumb switch as the MD600, i.e. the same setup as for doing a full backup.

My Sooloos storage utilisation at the moment is 941 GB; will a 4Tb HDD be sufficient?

I assume this will take a few days to complete?

Any other thoughts or guidance?

After you have set up an export destination go back to viewing albums and then edit the album, then you should be able to select export and then you select (tick) all the tracks and they will be exported to the export destination you set earlier.
This is all from memory so I may have forgotten a step? It’s been a long while since I did this.

Thanks Russ - I've got it working for one-off exports without problems.

It is the full database export for which I needed clarification. The implication is that the "Export All Sooloos Tracks and Playlists to this Repository" tick-box is sufficient and that I don't need to select individual albums and tracks (which would be a monster task).

Yes you are correct, just tick export all, no need to select albums individually export time is roughly 90 seconds per album assuming you have a 100mbit network connection between devices so for your library between 2 to 2 1/2 days, your 4tb disk will be more than sufficient.

A couple of things to ensure first.

1 The pc is connected via Ethernet not WiFi?
2 You ensure the pc does not ‘sleep’ use one of the many free utilities available or run a small video file on endless loop, setting no sleep in Windows control panel never seemed to work for me for some reason?

Be prepared for the export to stall, this is not an issue as restarting it will continue from where it left off.

Russ

Gianni you are over your PM limit.

In my experience it never worked exporting across a network ( eg to a NAS).

The tagtool.exe which operates with export just doesn’t work very well at all over the network.

Attached device was the only way I could get speeds like @ratbert mentions above.

+1. I always had the most success exporting to a USB drive connected to the PC.

I want to do a full library export too but in MP3 compressed files. I went to the settings and have set it to transcode in MP3 constant bitrate, then went to the export tab to set up the export folder and then have selected 25 albums to export. I have now been waiting more than 2 weeks and the MP3 files are just not exported. What am I doing wrong? Where are these transcoded files stored?

I assume you are using Control:PC to do the export and have a USB drive connected to it as your export destination?

I am using Control:PC and the export destination is my network drive.

My question is that does Sooloos create a MP3 duplicate of all the flagged files if I check the export settings on the settings menu? I have that option checked and did it about a month ago.

When I export to native format it is seamless. When I export to compressed format it has been days and no results except for those albums that were originally MP3 or lossy format.

Can you try it with a USB drive connected to the same PC you are running Control:PC on rather than a network drive.

Do you have a large/very large library? If you changed the export format to MP3 and it already was set to AAC or a different MP3 resolution, I believe it has to transcode your entire library to the chosen format, not just those 25 albums you're trying to create and MP3 file for.

For comparison, I export to higher quality AAC for all my stores. One one of my TwinStores with 4TB+4TB drives, I am getting some "ghost" artist names...that is, artist names that have long since been deleted but still show up when searching for a particular artist. Very annoying. I have already tried a fresh backup with my corrected meta-data but they reappeared after the restore. I am now trying to change the export format to MP3 with the thought that the existing AAC versions on the TwinStore might be holding the "ghost" names. Even though I am transcoding to the lowest MP3 format and each track is now roughly only 1000k or so, the process is taking a LONG time over a fairly fast connection. I am on day 4 and only 25% completed. For comparison, a full export of the already encoded AAC would take about 24 hours for me.

A final note that I encountered. Does your export show any in-progress or are they all upcoming? I had 2 albums that seemed to be hanging up the process. I manually unchecked the 2 albums and it started up again fine. I also restart and sometimes even delete the export process altogether to keep it moving. When you re-add an export option, as long as you have the same option and tell the system to keep the old info in the export folder, it should start up right where you left off.

Hope this helps.
