Hello

My MC200 failed a few months ago. Refuses to boot up and the front light keeps flashing.

Assumed it was a HDD failure and planned to remove it and run some diagnostics on it.

Switched to Roon which works fine, luckily I had all my FLAC files.

My MC200 apparently had a motherboard failure in the area of the Networking. Could not see it on the network anymore. Seems weird to me.
I have never had a motherboard fail in 30 years. Hardly even used the MC200 and then it goes bang. What is this motherboard inside?

Legend has it that it is just a simple PC motherboard, if you can find the same one or compatible it would be very cheap to fix.

I had the same symptoms a while back and like you believe it's the hard drive. I previously had the motherboard fail and it cost a pretty good chunk of change to have repaired.

This time I just bought a two drive QNAP NAS to be my core. Unfortunately, I lost the MC200 as an endpoint. One of the hazards of having all functionality entrusted to a spinning platter.

To all of you, when a piece of electronic equipment suddenly fails or starts behaving bizarrely, always, first and foremost, check power supplies (and/or, with computer based equipment the CMOS backup battery).

Hard drives do fail, and motherboards too, but power supplies fail all the time and not necessarily completely. Even within something like a power amplifier, if you have not obviously blown an output transistor, always check the power rails first.

Perhaps displaying my naïveté (or more likely plain ignorance), but will one still get flashing front panel lights with power supply failures? I ask not only for this instance but for a separate failure that I have assumed was power supply (Fujitsu plasma display with red/green alternating lights).
