Hi all

My home C15 has decided that it doesn't want to play any more.

It was connected to the transformer but shut down. I started it using the rocker switch, it went to the touch screen configuration option and on to the 7 circles. It then came up with a "connect a keyboard and something to allow boot; touch screen not working, so I switched it off. Switched back on and it goes through a continual loop with the Meridian screen and the prompt maker at the top left of the screen, nothing else.

I checked the transformer/power supply and it was very hot, so I disconnected it to allow it to cool down. Reconnected this morning, same issue with the C15, no change.

I am guessing/hoping that this is a battery replacement but obviously any advice would be gratefully received.

Many thanks

Jon

Hi Jon

Whilst the battery is a possibility it could be a failed hard drive, feel free to contact me to discuss further.

Hi John,

If it does turn out to be a hard disk issue and Russ can't assist, I may have a spare hard disk from a C15 from when I upgraded mine.

Cheers,

Steve

As always with electronics, if they suddenly start behaving oddly check the power supply first of all. Failing power supplies don't necessarily just stop (especially if they are switched mode designs). They may even measure DC outputs close to what you expect, but they can introduce high frequency ripple (which a DC meter doesn't see) and that is bad news. If you can, try another power brick for your Control 15. And the CMOS battery.

By the way, a tip. I have had to repair 4 Control power supply bricks. Then I found I could buy an exact replacement (new) online for only £20, the catch being that Meridian used a non-standard pin connection for the 4 pin plug that goes into the Control so you have to rewire. This is almost impossible using the original plug (you break it getting it apart) but replacements are readily available (very cheap) and then you just do a bit of soldering.

Hi all

Thanks for the responses.

Interestingly, I took my other C15 home last night, just the C15, and after unplugging the "failed" unit, which I tested one last time and same issues were apparent. I then reattached the PSU to the working unit, which then did not turn on.

I then checked the PSU and the green light was not showing. I checked the power cable, which is fine, so it appears that the PSU has failed. Maybe it was failing, it worked before I changed the units over last night.

Would a failing PSU damage the C15 in any way or as it is external, the C15 is protected in a way that the G series is not?

Thanks again to all.

Kind regards
Jon

Jon

The PSU should not damage the C15, the G class psu failures that damaged other boards in the unit were due to the psu failing ‘high’, I believe later psu’s were units that could only fail low thus preventing the issue.

The C15 uses the same psu as a TwinStore and can lock itself up I had it happen to me, try the following ...

Try the following:

Plug in the adapter to the twin store (C15) (with the mains lead powered off at mains switch)
Switch on the Twin Store (C15), do this a few times (this will remove any stored power in the adapter)
Leave it for a few minutes before switching on the power lead.
Hopefully the green light will now come on.
Switch on TwinStore (C15).
