Can't get audio through inputs H1, H2 or H3. H2 was touch and go for a bit, and then stopped. Video through these is very noisy and often blanks. However, inputs 4, 5 and 6 appear to get me sound to my 861, so I guess I'm keeping it. Is this a common problem? Take the lid off and reseat connectors?
Thanks,
Jamie

I'm going to spend a few days with a logic analyzer identifying where the breakdown is.

On the one hand, it looks like the HD621, but on the other, when I got it in December, it worked on the input I used and it's unlikely that I just happened to use input 4 then. It could have got knocked in the move, perhaps, so I'll try opening it up. I could live with one input except for the fact that the next day, I have no sound. 861 says "Movie 6", but I don't hear the click of the relays, and I get no sound. So next is to put a logic analyzer on the MMHR output and see if there is a signal. If there is, then I guess the 861 is the problem.

I've been thinking about buying a new UHD722, but I've had such a [censored] experience with Meridian and HDMI. I bought a used 586.2mm in December, and that had an issue with its MMHR input (tried it with two HD621s). Now I've an 861v8 and my HD621 appears not to work except for one input, and I get no sound the next day. Am I cursed?

I'm seriously considering buying a mainstream AVR (because HDMI2.0 4K @60Hz apparently isn't hard for Sony or Yamaha) and just tapping the PCM5102s on the board for 32/384 audio, and down sampling those to my 5ks with an FPGA. frown

Put down the analyzer and just get the UHD722. Flash to latest FW and go. It was a 5-10min install if I remember correctly. I just set it to 8ch in config program and go.

The agony is just not worth it and you already have an 861v8 which sound better than most SP’s in both music and movies.

For what? SQ wise it will be much poorer than just PS4 optical output to 861.

Shouldn't the HD621 just work too? If the HD621 worked great, I might even consider a 722 for the convenience. But so far, my faith in Meridian making something that interfaces to HDMI successfully is pretty shaken.

I think 7.1 LPCM direct through a digital path from a Yamaha will sound better than 5.1 compressed to 1.5Mbit/s. Uncompressed 7.1 LPCM is ~16Mbit/s.

Yep, the hard truth is och that even optical on superior kit may sound better than full pcm on a/v receivers.

That DD/DTS decoder in 861v8 has Meridian sauce in it...

Huh. I suppose I've only ever compared directly LPCM through a 568.2mm vs Optical through a 568.2mm. The LPCM was definitely better, but, true, both had Meridian secret sauce. I shall just have to build my project and we shall see!
