Hi all,

I want to factory reset our Meridian equipment and if possible also the DSP33 speakers.
I spoke with Carl about this a little bit.

He advised me to TYPE my devices.
I was not familiar with this term, but if I understand him correctly he meant “factory reset”.

Carl advised me to start a new thread regarding my question about the Meridian devices I use.

I have looked inside the user manual for the 568 but cannot find TYPING nor factory reset so far.
It’s not very clear to me how this works, if I understand the manual correctly I have to delete the user profiles and set everything back to defaults.
But so far I cannot find this option within the legacy configurator.

About the DSP33 if I am correct I would need a reset plug, which I don't have but a short between some pins could also work?
Also I'm wondering if this is necessary?

I hope someone can help me out with this one.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,
Floris

Hi Floris

You can set the 568.2 to a new “type” from it’s front panel, and start from there. Have a look at page 68 “choosing a standard setting” in the manual, which you can find in the “Duncan’s Meridian Info” tab at the top of the page. From a quick look at that, it seems like type 5.S.DDD would suit your set up (I know that sounds complicated, but it will make total sense the instant you see the page in the manual!)

It’s a long time since I had DSP33s but I can’t remember them requiring much set up? They were either “Centre/Left” or “Right” from the selector switch on the rear. When you get the legacy programme up and running, you can tweak bass/tilt per source, or more usefully, apply boundary settings depending how near or far they are from a corner, but they will certainly function and get you up and running from that selector switch.

Do remember, create a file in the Legacy programme and upload it to the device, ignore anything you see if you subsequently retrieve that file from the device. It won’t have the same settings as the file you uploaded, even though the device will have been working to your requirements all the while!

Let us know how you get on.

Cheers

George

PS There are no settings in the legacy set up programme or the device itself labelled as “default” or “factory reset”. It’s all done by going back to one of the “Types” (effectively a wide range of different factory reset options!)

Hi George,

Thanks for your answer.

If I understand you correctly, changing the "type" actually means the speaker layout type.
So for example on the 568.2 when I set the this to 5.S.DDD type, this will be enough to reset the device?

This is perhaps also the same for the 568?
I can find this kind of similar info in the user guide of the 568.

So only changing this will give me a full reset, if I understand you correctly?
It's still not very clear to me Unfortunately, sorry for this inconvenience.
Just not used to this kind of method of resetting a device these days..

About DSP33's, yes I have changed the switch selector on the back if I remember, I have to check it to be sure.

I also played with the settings with the legacy programmer in the past, so I have changed some settings there.
I'm just wondering how to reset these DSP33's, like giving them a full reset.
As far as I remember a special reset plug is made for the DSP33's, if I am correct?
Unfortunately I dont have that, but bridging some pins will do the same, and give me this reset perhaps?

Thanks in advance,
Floris

@George,

I have looked a the 568 user manual again, and on page 64 it displays the default type I presume?
Which then would be 5.S DAA I presume?

So setting the type to this setting again, should reset the 568, am I correct here?

When I look over at page 106 of the user manual, it says for a full reset, choosing standard setting over at page 64.
So I wondering if I'm correct here, and setting this default type does indeed give me a full reset?

How can I know if this full reset has been done, for example does the user profiles also disappear or go back to default, when loading the legacy configurator?

Or is there another way for me to check if this full reset has been performed properly?

Hi Floris,

Forgive me for being a little blunt here ...

TYPING a Meridian unit does perform a factory result. However, there are several versions of this reset that can be used ... the user just has to select the one that best fits their situation.

That's it ... I think you are overthinking this ... just reTYPE it ... configure it ... and enjoy it smile

Regards,
Carl

Hi Carl,

No problem and thanks for your message !

So I will just change the type using the buttons on the front, and then I'm all set.

I was thinking of putting back to 5.S.DDD like stated in the manual.
Simple as that?

Thanks in advance,

Best regards,
Floris
