They were keen on it when they had the only Hi Rez digital output scheme with MHR and it remains today.

I understand there are sonic benefits to transmission with MHR also.

No 18 in the Hall of fame smile I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best:
GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. F80

Yes you're correct Chris, MHR offers sonic improvements, it's not 'just' a security measure.

This will show as 'OFs' as the signal has been changed.
The Meridian DSP Speakers still see that it's an MQA decoded file, with inforamtion for them to render, but can't Authenticate it as it has been changed.

Thanks Rick,

That makes sense, as this is how MQA is supposed to work.
It's also good news that room correction is now possible with an all Meridian system.

Does this mean MQA decoded by Roon with no other changes, sent via MS600 to SE speaker with 3.16, (hence OFs), will not sound quite as good as the same signal decoded by 218, by virtue of MHR?

Not really...
... Although MHR does improve the performance, It doesn't necessarily mean that it can make an intrinsically lesser performing product better than a higher performing one.

The MS600 sounds better than 218 (in my opinion) 'Polishing' the 218 with MHR still doesn't make it outperform the MS600, but brings it closer.

So, is it possible to let Roon do the first MQA unfold, stream it to ID41 in the 861v8, SpeakerLink to DSP5200SE without altering the signal with room correction and get full fat MQA?

No, even in DIRECT mode the 861 still adjusts the unfolded MQA stream (MQB), the MQA "signaling" information is lost and thus the DSP will not recognise it as such.

Meridian would have to update the firmware in the 861 to make it MQA aware and even then I see this only working with DIRECT mode ... convenience excepted, I guess it begs the question why even have the 861 in the signal path?

Carl

My understanding is you lose resolution going through the processor.

I updated my 7200.2 the other night and have been testing a bit, current setup is a Bluesound Node2 streamer/Tidal -->SPDIF--->DSP7200.2.

1. Playing Tidal/MQA shows OFs in the display, which was expected.

2. Switching between PCM 44kHz and MQA/OFs 44kHz works fine.

3. Switching between PCM 44kHz and MQA/OFs 96kHz not so much, most of the time there is no sound (sometime distorted sound ) and I have to switch the input back and forth to make the speakers sync with the MQA 96kHz, seems like something Meridian should adress in a future firmware update.

4. Switching between MQA/OFs 44kHz and MQA/OFs 96kHz works fine.

5. Some albums even show OFs 192kHz... even thou the speakers only does 96kHz right?

Either way it's sure is a nice update to the .2 range!

Interesting! Maybe the 96K limitation no longer applies, and Meridian are distinguishing SEs but eh hardware changes and final render.

How do they sound?
