When using the Trinnov with a 271 you are essentially turning the 271 on and off. The volume stays at 87 and the Trinnov is the volume control.

Having all SpeakerLink speakers is a plus for keeping things tidy but enough AC12s or Revivers will do it too. If you have MQA capable speakers, the 271 has a SpeakerLink passthrough.

The integration between the Trinnov, 271 and DSP speakers is seemless (just the same as using the 861). You can control the volume in the Trinnov as Bruce said or you can have a fixed volume setting in the Trinnov and control the system volume in the speakers. That’s what I do using the MSR+ remote - same as you do with the 861.

The only inconvenience is that the speakers and the Trinnov volume both will respond to the MSR+ Remote. You can fix the volume control in the Trinnov so it won’t increase but you can’t stop it from decreasing so you need to be careful where you point the remote when you lower the volume. It’s just a minor issue for me but others may find it more annoying.

I’m not sure if there are any difficulties when controlling the volume in the Trinnov instead of the M DAP speakers - maybe Bruce can answer that.

I use a 218 connected to the 271 via SL for full fat MQA. I also have another 218 connected into my Trinnov via SPDIF and can play Sooloos etc. through that (including MQA via Tidal ) but that isn’t full fat MQA - I think. I haven’t compared the 2 yet (in case anyone asks) to know which I prefer.

I’m sure there will be some differences as my speakers will not be “EQ’d” going directly through the 271 and bypassing the Trinnov.

My gear: Trinnov Alt 32 (8-16), 271, 8000.1(SEs), 7200.1(SE), 320s, 3200s, SW5500s, Seaton F18 sub, MS200 (2nd zone), 218.
Other: JVC RS-4500 projector, Lumagen Pro Radiance, Panamorph DCR anamorphic lens, Panasonic UB900, Oppo BDP-203, QNAP TS-251 (M core and store).

I’m in the middle of switching thanks to Bruce. Just starting my journey and will share, as Joe has thankfully done, when I am finished.

Just switched with sadness 😥 after about 35 years with Meridian, starting with their 101/2s the 500 series, then G series and then 861v4 all the way up to v8. So a good run. They just seem to have lost interst in their community. With Bob Stewart having understandably been diverted by MQA, not a lots is left! Anyhow it was great most of the time with the likes of Des and others and till recently was streets ahead of the competition.

Just a word on Trinnov. I have gone for the Altitude 32 8 channel. Apart from doing 24/192 instead of just the 24/96 of the Altitude 16, it has a much larger power supply I have been told. If, as I do, you believe power supplies matter, I think this should be an improvement over the Altitude 16, not that I have listened to both.

Trinnov Altitude 32-8, Roon Nucleus, Oppo 103D, Kawero Classic, Thiel SS2 Subwoofer, Analog Domain M75D Mk2 amplifier, Aqua La Scala 2 DAC, Running Springs Dmitri (x2), Vertex (various), Kubala Sosna Expression /Synergistic interconnects/power cables
