I'm intrigued by your statement re "dynamics of the bass" as I've been confused a little at times with my setup.

This time last year I was using a G61RSL with 5200s LRC and 3200s Rear and DSW. With Music and Multichannel movie settings of the config the sub was set for LFE only and 2 channel Movie (Logic) the sub was in use for the 5200 centre (set to small). I don't remember a problem with the sound in 2 channel setup - but see my notes below.

Last Xmas I acquired a 861v6 and after some initial issues with setup (ably assisted by Rick of Audio Images who advised me to reset to a standard Type first) followed a similar setup but set the centre to small in the 2 channel setting to divert bass to the DSW. This just didn't sound right and I seemed to lose low frequencies. Some time later I acquired a second 861v6 (long story don't ask) and after getting that working (new psu required courtesy of Rick at Audio Images) it behaved the same way. A comparison test between the G61R and both 861s showed the same effect on all three so for now I've settled on:

2 channel setup in config set centre to large which means the DSW cannot be in play via the config setup program
Music and Multichannel setup set centre to small but set DSW to LFE only so bass diverted from 5200HC to the 5200 L&R

So the centre is not set to small to allow the DSW to be used to divert bass from the centre to the DSW.

All DSPs set with EBA on at all times.

If I set the centre to small and bass is diverted to the DSW it just seems to lose bass in some circumstances. Rick suggested maybe the DSW is in a position such that I am sitting in a null but in all other circumstances (multichannel with LFE) everything sounds super and I can hear the LFE.

Multichannel content comes from Sky Q / Oppo 203. 2 channel movie logic Sky Q - most BBC / ITV programs are this format i.e. AC3 2/0.0

Any comments or advice?

Bob

For 2 channel the center is upmixed from main, so I think there is not much of bass cut off from center at all.

Have you tried seting the main as small for 2 channel?

There is something for you to consider for improving bass/LFE

1) Time align the sub and speaker at crossover freq say 80Hz. Maybe you could ask Meridian what is the latency between 5200 (EBA)) and DSW at 80Hz in distance.

2)Using MRC to kill the peaks in response of the DSW first, then increase the level of the DSW.

3)Adjust the position of DSW,you will need tools like rew or MRC to view the changes in response.

4)Add another DSW grin

Hi thanks for all the good advice. Much fun to be had following your ideas and I like the last option! My wife is very patient and tolerant with my obsession / hobby but I think another DSW might be pushing it!!
