Hi

I’m on the verge of buying a 2019 Oled 65” Panasonic and the problem I have is the 4K Bluray player I want to buy unfortunately only has Coaxial out and not Optical which I need for connection to my M80, so unless I spend considerably more on a player which I don’t want to do my plan is HDMI from player to tv then Optical out from tv to m80?

Is this ok in terms of quality or maybe what I should of asked instead of going round the houses is are tv’s digital outs of good quality?

Regards
Danny

It is ok for quality but you would need to make sure the tv can downmix the signal to stereo.

I’m sure I remember reading Meridian itself saying most of the money from a tv goes onto the picture quality with little left over for sound but digital outputs are of high quality.

Not sure regarding the downmixing, I guess I’ll find out soon enough 😊

I use the optical out from my 2018 65" LG OLED into my 808v6. The sound quality is great and you can do the downmixing to 2 ch easily from the LG sound menu.

Ditto...

I run exactly the same into my 808. Works well for Sky, Netflix, YouTube, Prime etc.
