Hi

I'm planning on putting a new 50" Panasonic 4K TV into my bedroom and purchasing a soundbar & subwoofer combination to support the new screen. I have a 4K Sony Bluray player and Panasonic DMRHWT250EB PVR to feed the TV. I have listened to several systems including Samsung and Harman Kardon and narrowed down my potential soundbar purchase list to the following:

JBL Bar 3.1 £479 - not heard this kit, but their subwoofer specification seams way above the others
LG SL8YG £599 - heard in shop, I'm swayed by the Meridian input, also very good review in Home Cinema Choice
Panasonic SCHBT900 £599 - not heard this kit, similar ATMOS facility to LG
Sony HT-ZF9 £599 - heard in shop, again similar ATMOS specification to LG
Sonos Playbar & Sub £1398 - crazy price by comparison, local shop had display items but could not get it to work!!

I would be grateful for any opinions and advice on my selections and best performance and value for money?

Also do I need ATMOS in a bedroom 3.5M x 3.5M? Would I be better to step down to cheaper Dolby Digital/DTS capability?

I have convinced myself to spend more money and buy a 3 channel soundbar.

All thoughts, ideas and opinions gratefully received.

Thanks

Have you checked-out the new B&W Formation Soundbar?

At 1.24M wide that would be too big for my rack/room, interesting alternative though.

Have you looked at the Artison Soundbars. No internal processing, but are LRC and possibly part of larger setup. They even have an IP connected version (though needs to be in Savant ecosystem).
Let me know if you are interested. Might be able to help you out... wink

Sennheiser Ambeo is, allegedly, currently the one to go for. It may be too large for you though.
Yamaha, Blusound and Dali have some fine sounding bars as well.

Some time ago I heard a full built in 2.1 Meridian system. Spectacular!

Cheers!

Thanks for the input, my research continues.

Yetis you have PM.

The Sennheiser is definitely too big and expensive for my bedroom!

We’re using the latest Samsung which supports DTS and includes two dual rear/upward firing wireless speakers, which gives the advantage of surround sound without the cables. The front box might be too big for you, though.

The full Meridian 5.1 setup I had a decade ago was fantastic and completely trounces a sound bar!

If I had the space for a legacy Meridian 5.1 system there would be no question which way I would go, however even I have to be practical and sensible sometimes!!

Your Samsung is on the large size for my space.

I listened to a Panasonic SC-HTB688 3.1 Soundbar in Currys yesterday. For £149 brand new the offered performance seamed very good value. Obviously an older model without Atmos etc but maybe this is all I need for non-critical viewing/listening.

The compact dimensions would also be useful in my limited space.

If strictly for a bedroom, have you considered a system based on Anthony Gallo ?

Anthony Gallo is a well-established audio brand (20 years).
