Lately, when trawling through Amazon, I’ve noticed that the price of CD’s is escalating.

I suspect with high street competition being stifled, and the proliferation of streaming services, this is the likely cause.

I noted that many of my existing albums (that were once readily available in-store) that typically cost around £10 are now around the £60 mark.

I made exactly that point in the recent thread about HMV's recent close call. Amazon did the same thing about 6 years ago when HMV last went into administration. And for all their choice and bargain prices, I believe they will do exactly the same in every other field when the high street finally gasps it's last. Time honoured business practices: buy out the competition, or undercut until they go under.

(Without) Cheers

The price of horse shoes is much higher than it was a hundred years ago, and it's really hard to to find a good farrier. Is this a grand conspiracy on the part of car manufacturers? Horse population in the US dropped from 20 million in 1915 to 4 million in 1960. Were the car manufacturers slitting horses throats? What is the media not telling us?!

Is there a conspiracy, or is it just the CD sales have returned to 1987 levels and will soon be a rare and pricey thing, only for discerning (and monied) audiophiles?

A quick check on some of my random albums and still £10 or less! Vinyl does seem to be expensive though.

Most of my now expensive CD’s are by American performers.

Well Beyonce hasn't gone up in price unless your looking at:

Lifesize Beyonce - which is still a bargain in my eyes!

I've just looked up a dozen of my regularly-played CDs on Amazon & none were as much as £10.

I will qualify my previous comment, in that my American Jazz performers' CD's have substantively increased in price.

Are you certain this is a general trend? I watch various blu rays and their prices fluctuate wildly, for reasons that are clear only to Amazon.
