Is there a good write up of how to use phantom sources somewhere?

I've searched around a bit, but I'm still confused by what exactly this does, but I have a feeling I might have to use it as part of a config I'm trying to do...

Hi,

It's really about mapping Meridian sources [buttons] to the select the same physical audio input. I do this with the ID40 input on my 861.

SLS, DISC and TAPE sources [buttons] all select the ID40 card as their input ... but then I have different DSP modes configured for source; DIRECT, Trifield, Ambisonic.

I also changed the display labels so I see (SLS-D, SLS-T, SLS-A) I guess I should update these now to read Roon.

What is it that your wishing to achieve?

Regards,
Carl

Ahhh, thanks, that makes complete sense explained that way!

So, although I can see myself using that now I know it’s possible, this is not what I was currently trying to achieve.

Basically I have an 861v4 I’m trying to integrate into the system with 818/7200/HD621.

I’m using SL Master from 818 to LH 7200 and daisy chained slave SL to other 7200, the 861 only runs coax signal to Master DSP and no comms for now.

I have it partly working so that certain sources are mapped to D2 coax direct from 861 and 818 uses D1 SL direct. This works and plays. I have separate mconfig files for the two controllers.

However, what’s the correct way to have the other controller not play anything - just direct it to an unused input for that source? If so how would you do this in mconfig - do I have to map a physical source or just have the source checked as in use?

Apologies if brain not in gear, but why do you not want it to play anything?

Are you really wanting it to not to play anything? A very subtle difference but a common occurrence with devices such as 562 when sometimes it was not in the audio path (which may be the case with what you are trying) but you still had to give it a source even though it would not be played. In this scenario it was set to LV - last valid, so the input was effectively not changed, ie the 562 did not play anything/last valid as it was not in the audio path.

Hi Ian,

I’m sure it’s not your morning brain, but my explanation of what I’m trying to do which is confused! A symptom of not knowing enough to be clearer.

However, you’ve rightly guessed what I was trying to do and given me the answer - last valid I think is the solution when I want e.g., 861 to play multichannel from HD621 and the 818 to switch to that input but with no audio actually passing through it.

Is ID40/41 a special case in terms of the special comms type they use, or not?

Re:phantom sources, is it possible to set a phantom HD621 for 2-channel and multichannel, or does this require re-typing the HD621 each time?
