Hey everyone,

I got my 861v4 successfully hooked up to my new (to me) DSP5200's today and they're working great.

While I'm on the hunt for a DSP5200HC, a SW1600, and eventually some DSP rear speakers, I'm doing some research on how to hook them up correctly. I only have two comms outputs on the rear of my 861 and each can control a pair of speakers, so I'm thinking it would go like this:

Comm #1: M5 to Right Master speaker, S5 to Left Slave speaker
Comm #2: M5 to Center speaker, S5 to subwoofer (maybe make the center the master speaker)

How would I hook up the rear speakers?

The DSP user guide says the 861 shouldn't need a 511 patch box. Looks like there's an SL0 card that would work as a 4 port slave card? Or can I daisy chain more than two speakers together?

Thanks,
Chris

Hi,

Typically only one M5 lead is used ... from 861 to MASTER DSP.

Then you connect all the other DSP speakers (SLAVES) using Slave comms leads from the MASTER DSP.

There a 3 options:

1 - Use a SL card in the 861
2 - Use a 511 patch panel
3 - Daisy chain (from one DSP to the next)

Personally I prefer to use #1 or #2 as it allows the SPDIF and COMMS to run to together and standard S5 leads can be used with splitting.

Regards,
Carl

I was able to find an SW1600 locally that came with a M5 cable. I don’t have a spare S5 cable to connect it (one on order), but would this configuration work in the mean time?

Comm #1: M5 to Right Master speaker, S5 to Left Slave speaker
Comm #2: M5 to subwoofer (set to slave)

If not, why does the 861v4 have two M5 outputs?

The another 240 degrees 5pin female is for C5 cable to make comms with other Meridian sources like HD621.

Yes, you can use two master cables. Indeed I had to do that for quite a while until I sourced a spare S5 cable. Make sure to remember to configure your two speakers with M5 cables as masters.
