Hi All,

I was hoping to get some advice from you experts!! I'm about to set up a second system and am pretty excited about it!! It will be just a simple two channel set up for music only. (Purchasing the Iron Man 3 speakers from Bruce, who has been amazing with the whole transaction, amazing communication and service!!)

So. I really want to get Roon. It's purely for the interface as the Sooloos interface is awful IMO.

I shall be running the following equipment:
- 218
- MC200
- DSP7200.2

My question is; is there a way to integrate Roon with this equipment OR do I have to buy a Roon core unit like a Nucleus? I'm not sure if there is a way to connect a Roon account to interface with the MC200 so that could become the Roon core?

Forgive the dumb questions... Just a rookie trying to get the best set up and running.

Also. I just realized that with the above I wouldn't get room correction... I'm a bit worried about being able to sort out any room issues with the 7200s... Am I overthinking this? Would the only way to control this to add a G68 for example? I have one one in the theater room and would really prefer to keep the system in my living room as simple and box free as possible...

Any advice you could give would be amazing!

A Roon Nucleus is the absolute easiest solution. Plug and play with no fiddling around with a dedicated PC or NUC. You can have a Nucleus up and running in minutes.

or load Roon on a PC or Mac.

You still need to subscribe/purchase Roon though no matter what route you take.

You can use MC200 as audio endpoint but whilst it works OK as a NAS, Roon won't like multi disc sets served from Sooloos without some help. So don't expect to just point Roon at MC200 and it just index nicely. It's going to need some manual intervention and depending on how big your collection is, time. Or just do a native export from Sooloos to an external drive and use that as your media library. By which time MC200 will just be an audio endpoint.

TBH, both Roon and Sooloos have their good bits and bad bits. Sooloos is much better at surfing internet radio than Roon and less cluttered and more stable ux - you don't get features moving from release to release with Sooloos. But on the whole Roon is better, but how much better depends on how much you like/need its extra features. I fully appreciate why people still love Sooloos, it just works, but with Roon it will work for longer.

Also it’s good to understand that Roon is continuous in its development and the internet radio is up for improvement as far as I know.
After using Roon and being used to it, Sooloos is like having your hands tied. Good though it was in its time.

No 18 in the Hall of fame smile I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best:
GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. F80

Roon's DSP engine supports room correction filters, but it does not make the measurements itself so you need a third part application like REW do produce the filters.

There's lots of information on the Roon Knowledge Base (search for "room correction") plus help and support over on the Roon Forum.

If you do go the Roon route, other than the MC200 being used only as audio endpoint point it's to all intent and purposes redundant.

Carl
