I received an email today from MQA.co.uk
Quote:
TIDAL, in partnership with MQA, has announced that Master quality tracks are now available via iPhone devices, continuing to optimise the smartphone listening experience and deliver guaranteed master quality recordings direct from the source.
Updated the app on my 6S and can now see the "M" designation on albums, as are displayed on the Tidal website. No obvious blue light or other indication when playing an MQA track through the phone speaker. (Certainly can't listen critically that way anyway.) Don't know yet if this upgrade is also for iPads.

Main:: 861v8+ID41, 818v3+ID41, L/R: 8000-USE, 7200HC-USE, surrounds: 7200.2s, M2500, MC200, QNAP TS-251, HD621, Oppo 103D, Pioneer BDP09, Panasonic P60ZT60 plasma, Phillips DVR. Cat6 switch on master speakerlink lines to select 861 or 818.
2nd room: 5200.2s fed from MC200 coax.

I can see the ‘M’ on my iPad Pro.

No 18 in the Hall of fame smile I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best:
GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 218 zone... (Thanks Russ) Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2 and Mini. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos.

Surely you still need an MQA capable DAC for full fat MQA? The Tidal app will only perform the first part?

I am confused?! I thought the 210 does not contain a DAC?
Will Tidal desktop / or Tidal iOS into a 210 Streamer and then SpeakerLink to DSP SE's provide full MQA?
And if so, was my recent purchase of a 218 unnecessary?

If there is an analog output, it’s a DAC

Hi,

I’m streaming Lindsay Buckingham/ Christine McVie album on my iPad Pro. Running through Apple camera adapter and Explorer2 (+really cheapo headphones). Playback switches between HiFi (one light on E2) and Master (2 white lights on E2 - mode and 88/96K) as it should on this album but no blue light.

I’m not seeing any Master indication on my iPhoneSE.

The blue light works with Roon on my Explorer 2 but not on Tidal. It seems like it’s first unfold only...

Excellent News indeed. Mobile use on XSmax with B&O noise cancelling IE. not convinced i will hear it the difference as my predominant use is during flights, but for peace of mind an excellent update.

Edit: well what a pleasant surprise. Listened to Elvis Costello and Glen Hansard (off line downloads) during my flight this morning. It sounded really good. I would dare to say much better than usual but I did not do a A-B comparison.
The overall presentation, the bass, details sounded really well. I could play louder than usual. From an iPhone not bad at all.

I had a quick listen to the MQA version of Susan Wong (My Live Stories) last night using an iPhone 6s and Bose NC phones via bluetooth. I had to admit it sounded very nice, when I've a bit of time I'll try it with my Shure headphones 'hard wired' to the phone.

I didn't do any Tidal settings on the phone as I don't know if you have to you.

Make sure Masters is ticked in Tidal app settings.
