I recently purchased the Bob James MQA CD "Espresso" which sounds excellent on my main set up with MQA CD appearing on the speakers and CD display for all the tracks.
I then ripped the CD onto my boot camped Macbook via a seperate Apple CD rom drive using dBpoweramp CD ripping software.

The conversion was done as a FLAC uncompressed file.
I then transferred the ripped album onto my Astell Kern SP1000 which is MQA capable.
The MQA Blue light comes on for only three of the tracks (88.2 kHZ MQA) and the rest appear as 16 bit / 44.1kHZ FLAC.

Anybody else have this or similar experiences trying to rip MQA CDs or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

I have the same CD and it ripped perfectly and shows as MQA in Roon for all the tracks, you may need to use the MQA tag application it is available for Windows and Mac and instructions are included in the download.

Thanks for the advice. I downloaded the app but unfortunately it keeps crashing when I attempt to move files individually into it.
Will give it another go sometime next week.

The Windows version of the app does seem to crash on the latest build of Windows 10 (I’m using 64-bit, don’t know if same up issue for 32-bit W10) if you try and tag more than one file it a time. The first file seems to get created ok then it crashes.

However the Mac version of the MQA app on the latest release of MacOS handles large list of MQA CD ripped FLAC files with no problems. so if you can get access to a Mac that might be your solution until there is a bug fix released for the Windows version.
