I would be curious for anyone who has done comparisons to hear how the MC600 (which I am using) stacks up against the 818v1 or 818v2?

As I understand it, the clock, and jitter reducing capabilities, in the 818v2 is the biggest advance over v1.

Did this very comparison a few years back. There is a very clear improvement as you move up the range. Of course, the v3 is another jump again!

If you can get a good price for a unit, I’d definitely recommend the upgrade.

Cheers

Either 818 model will handily best an MC600, even the MS600 wasn’t close and that was a better endpoint than the MC. The v3 is world class.

Thanks all. This is what I suspected, but wanted to hear confirmation before I gave it any serious additional thought.

I've only owned a v2 and v3 - the v3 was a surprisingly big step up from the already great v2, so if you have the budget, I'd say it's a no-brainer.

What was the difference between v1 and v2?

Looking at your equipment makes me curious how you will set up. Wouldn’t an ID40 of ID41 861vX be a more logical choice?

I'd agree and the cost of the upgrade is quite reasonable.

Thanks all for the feedback and opinions. I went all in and got the 818v3. Still putting it through its paces, but for me, the telling moment was on listening to Jazz at the Pawnshop (Ultra HD Recording) and hearing stuff I never heard before. I've listened to that CD rip hundreds of times and could not believe the improved clarity on the 818 vs MC.

I am looking forward to trying out Tidal potentially this weekend.

Excellent choice. The 818v3 is remarkable in both analogue and digital systems.

Hope you enjoy what MQA via Tidal does.

What is your speaker/system context?
