I just purchased some used DSP5200 speakers this weekend (I did not get to hear them before I purchased them but my expectation were that they would sound good). I hooked them up to a digital source at home (Squeezebox Touch) and they seem to be working fine and sound excellent.

I am still reading about the speakers and how to operate them. I intend to use them as my stereo speakers in my office as a minimal stereo setup. My only complaint is that they lack bass. I would like to add a couple of musical subs to the speakers if possible but do not know the best way about this. I would also like to add some bass management with a DSPeaker antimode 2.0 if possible. The DSPeaker can control and manage up to 4 subs from a digital (optical 24/96) or analog input and provide correction for bass peaks but no correction for nulls.

Could I use the digital output of the slave speaker into the DSPeaker to provide the musical information to the subwoofers. Would the digital output of the slave speaker include volume control? DSPeaker only takes optical so I would have to use a RCA to optical converter for the digital signal.

Alternatively, the SqueezeboxTtouch has both a RCA digital and an optical output. I could provide the digital signal to the DSP5200 and the DSPeaker/Subwoofers in parallel. In this mode, I would likely have to control the volume through the Squeezebox Touch.

Would anybody know the drawbacks of the proposed schemes (or if it would work) or possibly propose a better way to do this (or forget about bass management entirely). I would like to say up front that I appreciate any help anyone may provide.

Best Regards,
gwho

Hi

As a first step, I'd go into the setup mode on the speakers and make sure the boundary settings are set to "free". As you bought them used, it's possible that they are currently configured to Boundary or Corner, which will reduce bass output.

The manuals can be found via the link at the top of the page, "Duncan's Meridian Info". If memory serves, the manuals for the older DSPs (ie DSP5000) has more info on Boundary settings and their adjustment than the newer DSP manuals.

Cheers

George

Mr. Meridian,

Thanks, I will do that. I will also review the older manual.
