Another key feature of the M6 is EBC. Because of the downward firing woofer enhanced boundry control is important in the initial setup.

O.P. - have you listened to M6s, or 5200s? Although you aesthetically might prefer the M6 look, as a few others have pointed out, connectivity and control concerns aside 5200s are far more speaker in terms of actual performance.

If you're spending this kind of money, you owe it to yourself to at least go to a friendly dealer and have a listen. Many will also carry second-hand stock with delivery and warranty options, so it might solve your 'collection only' dilemma if you did prefer the 5200s.

Yes, I’d definitely recommend auditioning them. I was very impressed by the M6’s when I auditioned them recently alongside an AC200 (albeit the latter’s remote is a bit naff).

The M6’s are perfectly sized for my 13’ x 15’ living-room.

Hi

Not sure whether you read the message I sent you (look for a flashing thing at the top of your screen) but there is an AC200 on eBay right now. Ending in about 2 days, currently £200.

If you want to buy the M6's, don't listen to the 5200's immediately before and certainly don't be tempted to listen to some SE's.

I found M6's very underwhelming having just listened to other speakers in the Meridian range when at a SSAV Bristol event. Oddly I think I preferred the 3200's that were also there. They were not unpleasant and would have been very good had I not previously heard what others can do. A bit like listening to some speakers connected via 79 strand cable, perfectly adequate until you listen again with 'proper' speaker cable. IMHO M6's are perfectly adequate for lifestyle speakers, which is what they are, but they are a little muddy for more critical listening.

There is no problem so bad that politicians cannot make any worse.

The caveat is that it has a faulty display.

For some perspective, to date I've been content with listening to a Meridian based analogue system since 1994. Over the past few months, however, I've auditioned Naim Uniti Nova via B&W 702 S2 loudspeakers. While pleasant, its performance was no different to what I was already used to. The experience didn't readily encourage me to reach for my wallet.

Then, I heard the M6's. The difference was palpable and significant. Even my Wife was impressed. She is never impressed with audio equipment. I want them, now! I've negotiated a good deal from a PP and will pull the trigger soon.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder: I'm in the minority here in regarding the majority of Meridian's DSP designs as being 'butt ugly' - starting with the 5200's. They can sound as wonderful as they are, but I personally wouldn't give them house room.

While some might deride the M6's so-called 'lifestyle' niche, for me they will blend in perfectly with my home - and, more importantly, will sound great.

I think the conflicting opinions on the relative SQ and looks of M6s vs 5200s in the last few posts are the perfect argument in favour of the O.P. auditioning and seeing both in the flesh.

I think the M6 give an element of intrigue when you walk into a room ☺️

Here's to many joyful hours of music with them (when they arrive)

Kind regards

Unfortunately, my personal circumstances are such - I am a full time carer for my partner, and miles away from the nearest dealer - that auditioning isn’t going to be possible. And while the M6s might not be in the same sonic ballpark as other Meridian speakers, they will be quite a big step up from my current rig.

Cheers everyone,
Vinnie

M6s are very good indeed. We are all into Meridian on here so tend to compare within the range and, as always with this level of Hi-Fi, small real world differences tend to get subjectively magnified.

I’m sure you’ll absolutely love the M6s.

What did you decide as the controller in the end? Make sure to spend a little time setting the speakers up and do read the manual as Meridian are not the same as other components in initial setup. From memory there might be an EBC setting on M6s, which is not on most other speakers in the range. If in doubt, just ask on here.

I’ve received a response from Meridian on if used AC200 displays can be repaired.

Yes, they can due to their modular design.

However, the AC200 was upgraded in April 2018 with an improved display.

So, ensure you buy an AC200 built since April.

You can also upgrade the external PSU of the AC200 (when you feel the urge) by using the Prime Power Supply.

Does the AC200 allow EBC control? I only found reference to EBA control in the data sheet, which seems odd as, iirc, neither the M6s nor 3200s have EBA...
