Hi, after 12 years in boxes and thanks to no more little kids around anymore and a new room available I am putting again together my Meridian system(s).
Have to admit that after the first enthusiasm I start feeling a little like Indiana Jones opening the Arch: a lot of memories are lost like tears in the rain (no, that's another movie) and the world is a different one after more than 12 years, especially in electronics.

Trying to understand again potential and limits of these fantastic but dated electronics.

Any way to obtain multichannel signal from a Sony UPB-X800 and have my G68J gulping it?
They are now connected with a coax cable. G68J is playing a hires stereo signal and I verified, is' not coming from the CD layer.

It looks the Sony player does not manage SACD - DSD in multichannel on the coax cable but only on HDMI (not available on G68J)

Hope to find a solution but reading around it looks SACD multichannel take too much bandwidth to travel on coax.

Any idea? Maybe there is a magic box able to connect Sony's HDMI someway inside the G68J?

Thanks from Indiana Runner smile

Mauro

Ciao Albert, thanks. YES, this looks the perfect answer! I missed HD621 completely....
Start chasing it.

Grazie!

I am also trying to keep my G68 relevant in a 4K Bluray universe.

I didn't yet have the Sony player that you do, so I had another few degrees of freedom, and available budget.

I didn't need the HDMI switching capability of the UHD6xx or UHD7xx so I decided to get an Oppo 203. It has HDMI pass-though so I could use my Apple TV 4K.

I found about $1000 is the current price on Audiogon or eBay, reselling new sealed units purchased this year as Oppo stopped production.

I then bought a Vanity 203 HD board. Installed into the Oppo 203 it replaces analog outputs with multi-channel digital out, to the G68 MD1 inputs.

It supports SACD and Bluray audio output.

I keep dithering on buying a vanity board based on cost. Did you do much testing prior to installing it to form an opinion on whether the benefits are worth it?

I think the whole Vanity board concept is pretty futile since the HD621 came out, unless you are a veteran tinkerer. Use a solid player that handles SACD without spending up on the analogue side, HDMI to HD621, HD621 to G68.

I used to run an Oppo BDP-80 transport, HD621 and 861 but I upgraded the Oppo to a 103-D to get the picture processing.

And the 4K version would be BDP-203 and UHD722 in place of the HD621.

Hi Greg - Did not do any testing prior ... So I wanted to keep the audio information in the digital domain during the leap from HDMI-In or Bluray through the Oppo to the G68.

I had assumed the G68 would redigitize the multi-channel Oppo analog input stream for room correction and such.

I also believed, perhaps erroneously, that more DSP output formats would be enabled on the G68 when the input was MDx rather than MAx.

I'm happy to declare myself also "completely ignorant" and thus happy to join this thread. I would love to hear opinions from the Unplugged experts here smile

I tried to find a used HD621 and failed hit a window of availability on eBay or Audiogon. I also realized that the HD621 would only handle the audio side for me ... the HDMI video switching would demand a UHD722 to pass 4k HDR and HDMI 2.0.
