Is there any advantage of a 568.2 over a 568.1 with a 2.1 system (DSP33 and SW1600) if I am just using Stereo preset?

I'm familiar with the 2.5 beta firmware being available only on the 568.2 and that this offers an improvement over the 568.1, but would this still be applicable for the standard stereo preset.

What I'd like to do with my system is upgrade my 561 to a 568 and then add a MS200 with a ROON server.

Would there be any benefit of 568.2 over a 568.1 for this set up

Many thanks in advance for any opinionspecial

Tim

Hi Tim

I "upgraded" from a 561 to a 568.1 and was actually disappointed that there was such a modest discernible difference between the two in my system at the time. A subsequent change to the 568.2 was a marked improvement, the rest of the system was the same IIRC (5 DSPs and analogue sub). This was with the original firmware.

At that time, I was listening to music in 2.1 mode, with the music/movies balance as 80%/20%.

I'd recommend you skip the 568.1 and go directly for a 568.2 (and the MM version at that, to keep some options open for yourself in future). It was, and still is to this day, a superbly musical piece of kit. The 2.5b firmware was a nice SQ enhancement from an already high base.

Cheers

George

Before you get one, contact the Meridian Repair people and ask them if anything goes wrong, if they can get parts to fix it.

The 568.2MM is an excellent piece of kit. However, I've had some issues connecting a MS200 to the optical input which resulted in the audio dropping in and out, using Roon as you plan to do. If possible, try to test it out beforehand.

Aibo,
Thanks for the advice, I guess using the speakerlink output with the appropriate adaptor could be an alternative solution

Lee,

Thanks!

It seems like there is some benefit of the 568.2 over the 568.1 for 2.1 systems. the price difference between the two is a little higher than I was expecting though.
