Hi,

I have an F80, MS200 and also a G95 in one particular room and am wondering whether the MS200 connected directly to the F80 (toshlink/optical in) would sound better than connecting the MS200 to the G95 (toshlink/optical in) and then connecting the G95 to the F80 via Nordost RCA (analogue out to analogue in)?

Essentially, I am experimenting with using the F80 as "speakers".

Presently, I have tried the second option (MS200 > G95 > F80) and it sounds fine. I am missing one cable which denies me the ability to test MC200 > F80 directly and so before I rush out to buy the correct cable, I wondered if the community here held an opinion?

I guess it comes down to whether the DAC in the G95 is better than the one in the F80?

Thanks

Pretty sure that the F80 will digitize any analogue input. I run two F80s fed optically from two MS200s at 2x sample rates, and it sounds great. Personally, I'd keep it simple and remove the G95 from the path.

I also run 2 M80's with MS200's via optical. Sounds great.

Less is more.

I tried the MS200 directly into the F80 via optical but to my ears it does not sound as good as via the G95.
One issue I do have is that with either set up I am unable to control the volume from the Sooloos app on the iPhone.
Can someone kindly remind me if this is possible and if so how to set it up?
Thanks!

Hello,

I am also interested in this last question - can you control the volume of the F80 utilizing the variable output setting on the MS200? In addition does anyone know if the F80 inputs, analog or digital, have auto-on sensing? This combined with the volume control would make the F80 a complete wireless controllable zone.

Thanks,

I just looked into one of my MS200’s and Analog audio can be variable or fixed. Digital is x1. X2 or direct.
So, if you use the analog input into the F80 you should be ok to control volume via ROON.
You cannot talk to the F80 via coms which is a shame.
I now use a Bluesound Pulse 2 for Roon and have full control but it won’t sync in Roon to Meridian zones.
If I ever get my F80 back I would love to compare the two products F80 via an MS200.
Not sure I am helping here...
