I guess I am to late to order an UHD722 with the promotion offer.

Eventually after the firmware upgrade, I wanted to give it a go, despite the cost.
But without the trade-up, the investment is not really justified for what you get in return IMO.

An Oppo 203 looks like a simple short term cost effective solution.

Any other options I should consider?

The 203 is great. It is a real pity that Oppo has stopped manufacturing them.

Still can't really believe Oppo ceased to manufacture all their hi-fi. Does anyone know what the current best alternatives to their disc spinners would be?

There are some 'high-end' Pioneer 4k models coming out in the next few months. Spec unknown but there are apparently going to be £1k and £2k models.

Main system - Sources (Kodi-HTPC, Vero 4k, FireTV, Sat) into Trinnov Altitude 32 (8-16) (+Roon), Trinnov Amplitude 8 amp & Vivid Audio (Giya G3, V1.5) and REL Stentor III speakers. Others: F80 + Raspberry Pi and other Pi systems.

As far as I'm aware the Oppo disc spinners will still continue to work, James wink

Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.

Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

I hope mine will, but the drive on my friend's BDP-93 has just begun to fail...

Seriously, though, I currently have a 1080 player, if I were to make the transition to a UHD projector in the foreseeable future, I wouldn't buy into a brand of blu-ray player I know to be dead; good to know there will be other premium options.

You have a point up to a point. I think it depends how active Oppo will be keeping the firmware up to date, which of course we dont know.

I have generally got at least 5 years out of my previous players, including my 93. The thing with UHD land is its still a work in progress. HDR caused issues, Dolby DV has caused a lot of issues. Who knows whats next? So if they let the firmware lag, that could be more problematic.

Shame they dropped out of this market that is for sure.

Cheers
Greg

Definitely interesting for DSP owners in that you’re not paying for DACs you don’t need.

For the price I would have expected/wanted a decent LPSU, though, as an ‘audiophile’ player.

The Cambrdge Audio players are based on the Oppo so it could be that these will disappear as well as they will run out of supply components.
