Internal stud walls vary, depending how high they are and or how big the room was. normally a 2" stud is fitted, with Kingspan fitted between the studs and an air gap behind, which varies, one reason: the original barn wall may not be plumb.

Shaun, thanks. Clearly I have some investigation to do. If it's only 2" the simple recess clearly won't be an option, so it'll be good to know.

I can confirm for sure that the walls and ceiling aren't plumb, the TV already looks crooked to either the floor/ceiling, depending on how you try to level the existing stand...

How large is the wall? Might be worth looking into building it out to accommodate the recessed tv and would give you the ability to have a nice chase for wires and ventillation. You mentioned she had a carpenter buddy.

Yeah, he's a general builder but able to do basic carpentry, I think. Same guy who did the barn conversion to begin with, so he should know depth of stud, etc.

I agree that would probably be the best way to go, though. Annoying thing is it could have been done this way to begin with, but not what she wanted at the time!

I think the next step might be to get myself, her and him in the actual room and try to thrash some of this out and come up with a solution which works from all angles.
