I personally do like the 'slide to reveal' artwork solution, but would just do it manually rather than spending thousands on automation (which I'm sure she won't spend on this). She has a pet carpenter who I'm sure could do a manual version, and what she does spend money on is art, so could definitely hang something there, or get something commissioned, I expect?

Most of these still require recessing to look like art just hanging on a wall, so if anyone has any idea about my install questions in terms of the practicalities of recessing TV/cable management, that would be great.

Wish I could think of a way to hide the system rack on the same wall too, as it would save running cables around so much to start with...!

False wall?

How deep is the wall? Will it accommodate a tv and mount plus electrical? If it can, the space can be framed like a window with a plywood back to shoot the mount to. Ideally if deep enough an articulating mount would be ideal for service and allowing the millwork to be tight to the tv.

Thanks Bruce, that’s a really good thought about still having an articulating mount of allow service/change of wires, etc.

Would you just drill a few vent holes in the plywood boxing to give the TV sufficient cooling?

I would put a couple of ducts in to suck the air up out of the box while the tv is on and dump it up into the attic. This can be done with a current sensing outlet.

Thanks, will look into that.

Already heard back from some of the suggestions - she doesn't want a sliding fixture of any sort, just to recess the TV into the wall and hide the cables to the equipment rack which will be off to the side.

Will have to see if I can tell the depth of the stud partition next, and go from there...

I’ll check with the builder who did the barn conversion, but yes, I reckon 4” is a fair bet too. I’ll have to pop down and measure up the depth of the TV today and see if it’s going to be enough to recess it, including all cabling and a mount, etc...

Will have to get a spark in to wire in mains power, too.

I wish there were a really nice TV cupboard/rack type solution she’d go for, which fit in with the decor (sort of a retro 60’s/70’s seaside barn look, but I’ve never come across one quite like it and not sure she’d go for it anyway.

Thanks for the heads-up. Believe me, I wish she would pay a pro installer - I tried to get her to use Rick the first time around, but she wouldn’t.

So hence me trying to sort it...
