A dealer wanted 1000 € more for the 5200.2 with Beryllium tweeter than with the normal DSP7200 tweeter

So Meridian should make things clear.

Can a UK dealer please clarify the situation?

Perhaps he's offering to upgrade the 5200.2 to SE spec?

Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.

Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

Something odd going on there. Is this an upgrade? Even so, upgrade to SE is a lot more than £1000.

Certainly, just to upgrade the tweeters should be more than a grand. I was pretty shocked when I asked about replacement costs for the beryllium units.

I am not convinced you can just upgrade the tweeter on the 5200.2s to the SE Beryllium.

Yes, it will fit in the space - but the electronics on the SE's are different to the .2's.

Exactly, the Be tweeter will be incompatible (sonically at least) with the .2 electronics.

OK so....

The Tweeter in the DSP5200.2 is the same as in the DSP7200.2 and DSP8000.2
This IS NOT Beryllium.

It is however 3dB more efficient than the tweeter in the DSP5200SL, DSP7200 and DSP8000 (Both Legacy and SL) so it cannot be used in these speakers.

The Beryllium tweeter in the SE speakers again has different characteristics, and cannot be used in anything other than SE speakers.

You can't interchange any of these tweeters into the other range of speakers hoping for an upgrade.
Although you will get sound out of them, it won't have the correct balance to the other drive units, and so will be wrong.

When Meridian changed from DSP5200SL to DSP5200.2 the list price actually dropped from £7,000 to £6,000.
DSP5200.2 subsequently had a price rise and are currently £6,500

We used to call the DSP8000 a DSP8000.2 when it had the SpeakerLink upgrade.
Really this should be referred to as a DSP8000SL, as the DSP8000.2 is a more recent upgrade to the speaker using the .2 tweeter, and associated electronic crossover changes to cope with the 3db efficiency gain.
Current DSP8000.2 are £36,000
