Will Roon 1.5 Core run on a 2017 Microsoft Surface i5/4GB device with music library on external USB 3 drive?

How much space would Roon take up on System drive for say a 500 album music library? - iirc database is stored there.

Is running core, store and control feasaible on this - not sure if terminology is right - whatever Roon equivalent is to Sooloos terms.

I don't see why it shouldn't run on a Windows tablet. Based on the size of my Roon Server Appdata folder, you should allow for around 1-2 GB. I suppose it also depends upon how many other albums you add from e.g. Tidal.

Main system - Sources (Kodi-HTPC, Vero 4k, FireTV, Sat) into Trinnov Altitude 32 (8-16) (+Roon), Trinnov Amplitude 8 amp & Vivid Audio (Giya G3, V1.5) and REL Stentor III speakers. Others: F80 + Raspberry Pi and other Pi systems.

Hi Ian

It should run fine on that.

The DB takes up a few GB at most, especially for only 500 albums.

You will be running core with control and output.

Hi Ian,

That is how I started (although I had the 8GB 2017 Surface i5) but I would be very surprised if the extra 4GB of Ram made any material difference given the size of your library - I was running mine as Core with over a 1000 albums without hiccup.

The Surface Pro is a very nice device to run Roon from and (for me) strikes the perfect balance of size and portability (for remote duties).

If I'm really honest (with myself) the difference to SQ after all the further upgrades I have made to separate the core and endpoint from the surface is minimal(feeding a USB DAC - Meridian Prime - into headphones) so I think you would be really happy with an all in one Surface solution.

Kind Regards,

Simon

PS. Just noticed the 4GB Surface has a smaller SSD too so you might run into storage problems for your (not Roon's) library. I believe you can get a 512GB micro SD card for the Surface these days which would cover the storage duties though.
