This is a superb development, and a game changer for those of us still with some legacy products. I am listening to MQA decoded by Roon on via an MS600 in my office and I am so glad I did not sell it to get another 218. Presumably 861 owners can smile again, and anyone who snapped up an MS200 very lucky.

A few other thoughts...

I can now access the Absolute Radio high bit rate Ogg Streams... are there other similar radio stations?

I compared Roon decoding of MQA with that in a 218. I thought the latter was a tiny bit cleaner and still a sensational product its own right.

It will be very interesting to see what owners of Linn Streamers make of MQA.

A very good day.

Richard

Interesting limitation if you have Roon an MQA capable Meridian endpoint and SE speakers.

With a little lighting and “resolution” on that photo, you could maybe discern just who is Flaccing off🕵🏻I may have committed a double entendre twice. Congratulations.🍾

Yep, Meridian's SE speakers require a MHR stream and "MQA Instructions" via SpeakerLink before they will render. I believe this is down to Meridian being an early adopter of MQA technology, since then MQA limited have relaxed some of the requirements ... which leaves M somewhat behind the curve.

Roon have discussed this with Meridian and MQA hopefully a Meridian firmware update will resolve and improve interoperability.
I just hope we don't have to wait too long for it.

Carl

No I hope you don’t. wink Do you have MQA excluding the render on your 861?

Nope, I think it will come one day for DIRECT mode... but I'll not hold my breath.

Actually, given what Roon has been allowed to do with DSP (apply DSP and output a renderable stream), I think it's far more likely that the 861 will (one day - not holding breath) get multi-channel MQA.
