Since my 18 bit boards use EEPROM’s for firmware - and mine are not the latest/last available for 18 bits - if by some miracle I was able to find an EEPROM with latest firmware, are they idiot proof user replaceable?

As in are they a plug-in item? Or is desoldering/soldering/PCB work necessary?

The EEPROM is socketed, so it can be changed by the user quite easily (just take normal static preventive measures).

However, obtaining replacement chips or the firmware file and reprogramming the chips is nigh on impossible these days.

Note: the final firmware version for 18 bit boards will be considerably lower than the 24bit version.

There’s some historical discussion on the forum, that a forum Google search will find.

Regards,
Carl

Thanks Carl. I keep forgetting to use Google Search instead of the Search in the bar!

Although I found a few discussions, none had a definitive answer on the latest/last EPROM firmware for 18 bit models. Last speculation from 2009 was 2.73, but it was speculation. I’m not even sure what occurred in later firmware updates and therefore if it’s even worth pursuing, honestly.

Too bad there’s not a listing somewhere of every version along the way and what each involved. Everything I found focused primarily on the last few versions only.

Worth a shot. Both for the EEPROM as well as the info on the various versions...
