The G68 worked well for an afternoon but today everytime it’s turned on, it switches off again? Not sure why or what the problem could be....?

Could the PSU be damaged or faulty?

Thanks,

Nick

I'd say there is a good chance that the PSU has gone. You can try different cables and power sockets to rule out these options.

If the PSU has gone, there is a chance that it will take out some of the DACs too. Good luck.

Cheers
Tom

Check the power supply output. It may be low. It can be adjusted. Pretty sure it needs to be 5.1v.
Do a google search on this website and you will come up with discussion on the correct setting.

That sounds like it could be expensive. The PSU I’m guessing won’t be too bad but the DAC’s could be?

Thanks,

Nick

I don't want to overly pessimistic at this stage, but there is a shortgae of spares for the G68 too.
Let's hope if it is hardware, it is only the PSU.

Cheers
Tom

Oh no, that doesn't sound great.

Presumably a PSU is relatively easy to fit? How would you test the other components?

Thanks,

Nick

Try checking and adjusting the voltage output first. Same thing was happening to my g68 when I got it. Adjusted the voltage and it’s been fine since.

How do I check the voltage - sorry if that sounds like a silly question... is it easy to check and easy to adjust?

Thank you

I put “adjusting G68 power supply” into the google search at the top of the page and found this:
Quote:
First thing to do is disconnect the lead between the PSU and the motherboard (with the power OFF). If you have an ESD wrist band then put it on and connect the other end to the G68 chassis. If you don't have one you can probably get away with just holding the chassis with one hand while removing the PSU-motherboard lead with the other. Once you have disconnected this lead you don't need to use the ESD band, provided that is you don't touch any of the PCB's.

Next select an appropriate voltage range on your meter - anything between about 12V and 50V DC will do (do not select an AC range). 20V full scale deflection is probably best if your meter has it.

Next power up the G68 and connect from the -ve terminal on your meter (which should have a black probe lead connected to it) to one of the pins on the PSU which, until you disconnected it, had a black lead going to the motherboard. Then connect from the +ve terminal on your meter (red lead) to each of the pins in turn which had a red lead coming from them. As it's a UMEC PSU both readings should read 5V.

Keep the black lead connected to the same PSU pin and connect the red meter lead to where the yellow lead came from the PSU - this should read 12V.

Finally connect the black lead from your meter to where the blue lead came from the PSU and connect the red lead from your meter to where the black lead came from your PSU - remember we are checking here for a -ve voltage which is why you reverse the meter leads. All being well this will read 12V meaning you have -12V in reality.

Any significant variance from the above readings mean you have a faulty PSU. When I did these checks on my own UMEC PSU it was quite obvious there was a fault, all three voltages were way off.

Cheers, Roger.
Try also G68 PSU. It says below to adjust to 5v. Mine is set at 5.2v. When it was rebooting, like yours, it was reading 4.9v. You will also find lots of info on this site about replacing the power supply with a linear unit. (I still have to change mine, working on it...)

Good luck,
Andrew

Here’s my original post G68ADV continually re-booting from when mine started playing up. There is a link amongst the replies with instructions on how to replace a faulty PSU.

Cheers,
Andrew

Just went to take a small video of what it was doing to show the guy I bought it from, and for some reason it doesn't seem to be booting now? The Meridian screen comes up and just stays lit? Not sure what's going on.....?
