I have the opportunity to buy locally a used C15 for really not much money. I’m thinking installing it in my summer home project, as the main Sooloos core, instead of my MC200. I like the idea of the screen being always on and easily accessible to all, as opposed to each of us having to use our smart phone. It’s more user friendly, given that we have a lots of guests and family staying over.

Is it even worth considering, is it still supported, and and are there known failures over time?

Thank you

Jerome

These tend to last a good long time. Most problems that I have seen have power supply or CMOS batteries. With the exception of mother boards, most replacement parts are available.

I agree that having a always available interface is nice. I have multiple C10/C15s around the house for the family to use.

The CD drive can fail. Quite common on any device over time.

They do from time to time. It takes about ten minutes to change it out.

Agree provided the spares remain available. G series DVD-A compatible drives are a good reminder.

For the C10/15? Or do you mean for the many G series players that have been retired ?

My point is that the situation changes over time and the OP should be aware.

Both actually. I was able to purchase two OEM G series drives last week. Any yes, that availability won't last forever.

A great device if you find one for a good price and as long as any potential CD drive failure doesn't effect the rest of the functionality, then of course ripping CDs through a PC using Control:PC is a very straightforward workaround.

The C15 doesn't take too well to being dropped however ;-0 !

Hi Jeje, I'm curious to know if you ended up with the Control:15 unit that you were contemplating buying? I just bought one, but am experiencing problems with it.

No yet, I'm supposed to pick it up this week-end, but I've been reading you post and it's giving me second thoughts...

So I pulled the trigger and bought the C15 (for $200). It boots, offers screen calibration with the 4 X on the 4 corners, but when it loads the registration page, I can’t type anything or even skip because the screen touch is completely out of wack. Meaning the location on the screen doesn’t match the text, and it’s impossible to type anything. I’m stuck right there.

Is it a software issue, and I could get around by reinstalling the OS, or is it a hardware failure and I can just dump the whole thing? That would hurt because it looks really cool.
