My Oppo BDP-83 doesn't want to open its tray any more. Should of an easy "known issue" repair, I'm thinking that it may be time to move on: the 83 is not even on the "legacy" part of Oppo's website any more(!) and I was rather annoyed when it turned out that the audio on The Force Awakens wouldn't play properly (and there was no fix).

My video system is 1080p24/50/60 with a Lumagen video processor. No plans/needs for 4k or deep colour etc. at this moment.

So, any reason not to go for a PS4 as a transport? I've always been impressed with my PS3, but it's region A...

I used the ps4 for a year it was a capable machine no complaints from me.
Meant to say do you game or is it just for Bluray,if so consider the Oppo 203 and mod to your heart and wallets content.

Having just gone from an 83 to a 203 myself, I would second that recommendation. My main insentive was to be able to decode the hd codecs to pcm from my popcorn hour via the Oppo’s HDMI input and it does this with aplomb. It is also a capable video streamer in its own right, and were there a way to navigate the files via a video wall, rather than just file listings, I would dump the popcorn hour completely. Being projector based, like for yourself, hdr is not really yet of concern to me. Maybe one day when laser gets brighter and cheaper, but I’m guessing that’s a good few years away.

Main System: 861v8+ID41, HD621, 3 x 8KuSE, 4 x M6 Surrounds, Velodyne DD18, Oppo 203, Popcorn Hour A500, Roon.

Primarily Blu-Ray, but I game occasionally. TBH, I'm past spending that amount on a BRD player... Actually, I've never spent that amount on a BRD player!

I'd be interested in your feedback. When my Oppo 93 died, I used my XBox One as a transport whilst waiting for the 203 to come out. I was pretty disappointed to be honest, and had to buy a stupid remote to make it usable.

Plus I have a fair number of US discs which I obviously couldn't play.

Was glad to get back to the Oppo when it was released!

Er, what deed?! Have you stuck with the PS4 or bought a 203? You earlier said you weren't interested in spending 203-type $$$ on a BD player so I'm not clear what conclusion you reached...

The same thing happened to mine 5 (?) years ago. I sent it in for service and it was repaired and sent back free of charge! I was very happy. Probably used it less than five times afterwards ...
