Hi

New guy, tried searching and not much wiser smile Is there a way to connect two sources (SPDIF) to 5200s? Or is it smarter to go via MC200?

Cheers Tom

Hi Tom,

Welcome to the forum.

I'm sure someone will chip in with some cheap option to get SPDIF into the SpeakerLink connection on the speakers but the Meridian option would be to use an AC12. You'll find details if you look around on 'Duncan's Meridian Info' link at the top of the page.

Plenty of other options to add inputs you can go with the MC200, particularly if you already have one and want to use Sooloos (although that won't provide any other additional inputs).

Alternative options with direct SL connections would be an AC200 or a 218 if you want to add more sources (although you'd still need the MC200 for Sooloos). Cheaper still would be to use a 500 series switcher (e.g. 562) and to use a 'Reviver' (or AC12) to convert to SL.

Brian has covered all bases above.

If you have just two digital sources and a pair of DSP speakers then it is a really elegant setup.

DSP's can handle 2 inputs with just a bit of setup (Read the manual for TYPE setting) and the right cables. D1 and D2 inputs.

Nick

Yes, but one of those inputs on the 5200.2 is via a SpeakerLink connection, so OP was asking about how to get two SPDIF (coax) inputs into the speakers.

That's a reply worthy of a Meridian employee.

Hi Tom,

A quick Google search of the forum reveals SpeakerLink used as Digital Out (XLR or SPDIF) plus COMMS and RS232... or you could purchase a Reviver from Robert.

Hi Carl,

The cable topic SpeakerLink used as Digital Out (XLR or SPDIF) plus COMMS and RS232 was a bit over my head smile I am not sure the Reviver does what I ask?

I would basically like to connect one coax with SPDIF into one input and one coax SPDIF into the SpeakerLink inputs on one speaker. And of course have both speakers sing when I select either input. Is that possible?

Maybe a bad explanation smile basically convert the SpeakerLink input into another coax SPDIF input.

Cheers Tom

The Reviver will do what you ask. You will just need the appropriate cables, for the configuration you want.

Reviver (and other aforementioned solutions) converts SPDIF + Comms to SpeakerLink and vice versa - comms cables may differ slightly depending on which way you are going.

But if you don't need comms going into SpeakerLink, IE via the BNC cable then it is even simpler. You only need comms for the first Meridian source and either SpeakerLink or BNC connections (with an DIN/BNC adaptor) will do that or you.

If your other source is not Meridian then MC200 via SpeakerLink then any version of Reviver et al should suffice.
