Hello all,

I recently purchased a Mac Mini and wanted to use that with Roon.

My goal is to output the audio via HDMI into a HD621. Is that doable and if so what settings should I use when setting up Roon so it doesn't mess (down sample, etc.) with the audio?

On a side note I'm doing all this so I can eliminate a Logitech SBT that I currently use and just want to have something that is going to work all the time and not some of the time. I plan on leaving the Mac on 24/7 with Roon running.

Also is this going to improve the audio quality by going HDMI vs coax digital and removing the SBT.

Thanks in advance!

Steve

Are you running Roon Core on the Mac Mini?

It should be fine. Bear in mind that HDMI can be quite jittery, but the HD621 should sort that out.

Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.

Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

Buy a Raspberry Pi and Allo Digione, then go coax into your gear.

This will sound so much nicer.

Yeah, but to be honest the Digione Hat is $99, and you can buy a Pi for $40 so seems a pricey way to do it, but you get a case and maybe a PSU?

Thanks

They say it's plug and play. I saw a picture of a wall wart power supply somewhere.

I'm going to give it a try.

Hi Steve,

Given all the other Meridian kit in your signature you may wish to consider an MS200. I previously had roon on the Mac mini going via the HD621 direct into my DSP's and using the MS200 made a noticeable improvement.

Cheers,
David

Can you tell me the cost of a MS200? Also how would I connect it? Do I use the Sooloos app and dump Roon? Do I eliminate the SBT and mac mini?

MS200 works perfectly with Roon although it’s not a RAAT device, so you can’t sync it with RAAT zones.

MSR+ commands work in Roon this way.

No 18 in the Hall of fame smile I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best: GIK monster bass panels, rear wall.
MC200 500GB, QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into 2 MS200's. Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2 and Mini. 596 v1.89.2, 518, G61R, M60.2 Rosewood, M33C, M33 Rears, M1500 Sub, Foxsat HD, Sony Blu Ray, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos.

You still need the Roon Core on the Mac Mini.

Roon (ROCK NUC with internal SSD storage)
Meridian 218, DSP3200.
Lindemann Musicbook 20DSD and 55, PMC Wafer 1 (shared with Marantz SR7011 7.1 system).

Explorer 2.

Simply plug the MS200 into your ethernet switch and Roon will see it in networked devices part of the audio settings.

Then depending on the capability of the rest of your kit, there's SpeakerLink, optical digital or analogue outputs.

Cheers,
Dave

If using Roon I see no real need for an MS200 in your case.

I used a Pi and IQAudio Digi+ Hat.

Digi+ Link

Which costs £65 all in, and offers everything the MS200 does, when using Roon, but also adds Airplay, Spotify Connect etc.
You will need to add a new 210 Streamer if you want to add options like that above.
Unless of course the 210 is also a Roon endpoint too? But I bet it is more than £65.

I found the above sounded better than my MS600 by the way, and when I added an iFi PSU (£45) it was better again.

The Allo DigiOne unit is meant to be game changing in sound quality, it is $99 instead of £30, but still cheap.

The MS200 upsamples and apodises.

But doesn't sound as good, costs a fair bit more and is far more limited in what it can do.

If using Sooloos then yeah, makes sense, but for someone using Roon, with a G processor and DSP speakers the only reason is because it has an Meridian logo on it, which I get may be nice.

I would contest that it’s not holding back the sound I am hearing in my system. No upgradeitis in that area for now. If you already have one, you may as well use it.
For certain there are cheaper options if your into tinkering.

No, I get that, but the Pi+IQAdio Digi+ sounded better than the MS600, which folk say sounds better than the MS200, and the Allo DigiOne is meant to sound better than just about all Roon endpoint/transports out there regardless of price.

Plus you can add all the features of the Meridian 210 streamer and MS200 in one unit at a cracking price point.

If you have no intention of using Sooloos then it make far more sense.
Meridian have obviously looked at these options, hence them releasing the 210.

I'm curious about the Pi + DigiOne option, but I've yet to find a case + PSU that looks as finished and clean as an MS200. Does it exist, or are these DIY options meant to be hidden?
