Hey guys,

I'm new to the Meridian world with an 861v4 that I got at a great price because it had an error code, I flashed it to the latest v8.1 software and everything seems to be working great with no error codes. Only problem is when I try to trigger an external amp (Levinson 433) it turns on momentarily and then turns off. I hooked up a voltmeter to the trigger and it appears that when I turn it on, it peaks around 6V (amp turns on) and then settles around 0.6V (amp turns off). Any idea what the problem might be? Amp trigger was working fine with a Krell S-1000 preamp up until I swapped it out with the 861 today.

What's the difference between trigger High and Low settings? I tried both settings on all three trigger outputs to no avail...

Also heard that I can upgrade my 861v4 to a linear power supply, any links with details on that would be much appreciated! (i.e. where to order it and installation instructions?)

Thanks!
Chris

Hi means on and low means off. It needs to stay high to keep the amp on. The linear power supplies are available from Meridian dealers. Installation is pretty simple.

Have a read of this

May give an idea of trigger voltage differences that may be expected with different bits of kit and how to overcome the problem.

Looks like your 433 expects 12v, your 861 should be 12v but looks to be measured at 6v. Hopefully someone else with more hands on knowledge can explain why.

Yeah, from the measurements it looks like the trigger peaks at 6V when I turn on the 861, but then falls to ~0.6V almost instantly and the amp turns off, and goes to 0V when I turn the 861 off.

I made my own trigger cable from a 5V DC plug and a 3.5mm mono cable, could that be the problem? I tried swapping the wires and that didn't work either.

Maybe I'll see if I can get a used CO00 card and try replacing that?

Are you using trigger #3? it operates differently.

Best to use #2 it will give a constant 12vdc at 100mA

I seem to remember trigger 3 operating differently on a G61 unit that I used to have also.

Tried all three trigger outputs and they all had the same issue...

A Niles CS12v could fix this pretty cheaply. It is plug and play, 12v 200ma trigger as long as AC current is sensed. About $230.00.

"the trigger peaks at 6V when I turn on the 861, but then falls to ~0.6V almost instantly and the amp turns off, and goes to 0V when I turn the 861 off"

If it is doing this then you have a fault on the computer board.

Want to ensure when you say "turn on" that you do mean out of standby not on and off from the rear of the unit. You have configured the triggers with the configuration program correct?

Yup, I confirmed all 3 of the triggers are configured for high in the configuration, and it's when I turn on the unit from the front (hitting the source button), not from the back of the unit.

Is it possible to just buy a new CO00 board? If so, any idea how much one would cost? I've set some alerts to try to find one on eBay but haven't had any luck.

Thanks,
Chris

Anyone have any other ideas on this? I pulled the board tonight and couldn't see anything visibly wrong with it, and made sure it was seated properly. Also pulled and reseated the rest of the cards just to double check. All three +12V triggers are still peaking around +6V and then settling around +0.7V. I'm going to put up a WTB listing in the Restaurant for a CO00 card in the meantime.

Thanks,
Chris

Hey everyone, I ordered a new CO00 card and I'm still having the trigger issue where it briefly turns on the amplifier, then turns off after a few seconds (initial 6V then drops to 0.6V). Does anyone have any other ideas what might be causing this?

Thanks,
Chris
