Probably a dumb question, but is there a convenient option to control basic functions - volume up/down for a DSP speaker (legacy DSP5000) from an iOS device?

If your streaming, Roon and Sooloos will control volume etc to an MS200

No 18 in the Hall of fame smile I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best: GIK monster bass panels, rear wall.
MC200 500GB, QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into 2 MS200's. Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2 and Mini. 596 v1.89.2, 518, G61R, M60.2 Rosewood, M33C, M33 Rears, M1500 Sub, Foxsat HD, Sony Blu Ray, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos.

Yes, perhaps as I come up to speed... but all I have now are the two DSP5000’s left over from former days, a Bluesound Node 2 streaming directly to them, and my variety of iOS devices to control the Bluesound. Although I can control the volume with variable digital out from the Bluesound, I’d rather not throw away resolution and control volume at the DSP without resorting to the cumbersome MSR. Just hoping that there’s a workaround of some sort that I’m ignorant of...

Ian replied your question and suggested a very good option... have you clicked the vMSR link in his post and read up on it?

If you have any specific questions that aren’t coved in that linked topic or the virtualMSR site itself... or you need further clarification then get back to us or to Rick at AudioImages.

Regards,
Carl

Chris,
So if I don’t want to use Sooloos or Roon or anything but a simple volume control, there is nothing here?

Doesn't the global cache have to connect to a processor or can it connect direct to DSPs?

It attaches to your Controller, so without a processor I think adding one to the DSP designated as Controller should just work.

I can test it if needed.

Here’s a Link to the Global Cache item for the OP.

Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.

Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

vMSR + Global cache works just fine when connected directly to the DSP speaker (configured as MASTER and Controller) via its RS232 port.
There is a vMSR setting "Managed Comms", that needs switching off ... so it does not expect processor feedback.

Hi,

Your not giving us much to help you with ... the vMSR is a software application that runs on an Apple iPad ... that can emulate a Meridian System Remote (MSR).

You need to read these links ... they will explain what the vMSR software application is and why it needs Global Caché iTach IP2SL hardware to support it.

All the information functionality and use cases are here vMSR Product Website.

Rick's introduction and subsequent forum discussion of the vMSR is here virtualMSR (vMSR) iPad App for Meridian.

Please do this and confirm that you have, then you will be better informed and be able to move forwards with this.

Carl
