So what would be the best way to control volume with an MS200 directly into DSP33s?

Thanks
Tim

Assuming you mean control the volume via Roon, the easiest way is via Meridian comms, so you'd need a SpeakerLink to SPDIF+comms dongle (AC12, Reviver, or something custom).

Going down the RPi + HiFiBerry digi board + RS232 + Roon Meridian extension option is cheaper, but a lot more complicated.

Joel,
Is it possible to control the volume without using Roon, i.e setting a fixed output level from Roon and then using something like a 512.

I'm not sure I understand the intricacies of controlling via Roon and whether this would actually be the better option.

Thanks,
Tim

Sure there are several ways of doing that. For one you can simply hide the volume control in Roon for that device.

I hide the volume controls on my MS200/M80 combos.

How would the volume be controlled?

Would a 218 be a better option for Roon direct to DSP33's

Thanks

Tim

You're now talking chalk and cheese. A 218 is 3.5x the cost of an MS200 and would still need a comms dongle to connect to DSP33s. The 218 will unfold MQA to the 96k capability of the DSP33s (as will Roon, though not yet) and may or may not have better up-sampling than both Roon and the MS200.

Joel,

Thanks, I understand the 218 is a different product and am wondering if it may actually be a better solution for my needs.

At the moment I have a pair of DSP33's and an SW1600 controlled by a 561. My inputs are optical digital from TV and digital coaxial from the SBT.

I am looking to upgrade and almost certainly want to take the 561 out of the chain so I get 96k music. I then have the problem of how to control volume, sources and integrate the SW1600 with the DSP33's. Would a 218 enable volume control, source selection (I guess sub integration is pushing my luck).

Cheers

Tim
