I've been playing around with Roon for the last few days and like the interface. At the moment I have it feeding a SB Touch into my 561 and DSP33's.

I am thinking of buying an MS200 (the price seems to have dropped lately). Would this make sense in my system? I would probably connect the MS200 directly to the DSP33's so that I get the higher sample rates. Would it be possible to control volume levels with this set up?

Any advice gladly appreciated

Thanks in advance

Tim

I use MS200 in two zones with Roon. My G61R works perfectly with it. I control volume in Roon. My MSR+ will play pause next prev volume etc if I have an Album or playlist going.

The MS200 is not RAAT and will not sync zones with RAAT devices. Also it does not decode MQA but it’s a great little unit. I had a SpeakerLink Comms cable made up and use the optical out to my G61R

My other unit uses analog out to a bedroom Radio.

Yes you can connect it directly to your DSP33, but you will need a SpeakerLink to comms cable (and digital coax) to get signal and volume control.

Chris, I understand that RAAT is the protocol used by Roon to transmit audio. Apart from the synching issues you mention above, does the lack of RAAT on the MS200 have any other implications, e.g. sound quality etc ?

Thanks,

Tim

Nope, the Roon team came from Sooloos and understand Meridian. The sound quality and function is excellent.
Meridian even quote ROON as an option for their streamed devices.

If I get rid of the 561 in my system how would volume control work for me? Would I need a 512?

The MS200 has analog variable and fixed volume so you can set it up as you like. Digital is fixed with 1x or 2x sample, apodising etc. It also has IR reception I believe, so an MSR+ will work for basic function.

Volume is in the ROON app where you can set max and min levels etc.
It’s worth having a good read of the MS200 user and set up guide.

Do DSP33 differ from other DSP speakers in the way they control volume? I have my MS200 connected via SpeakerLink to a pair of M6. Or is there a difference between Roon and Sooloos for controlling volume?

Thanks, Edd

I have Sooloos (not used for a while) and Roon and they both work in my set up with MS200. The only practical difference from a user point of view is the lack of RAAT sync. MS200’s Sync fine.

I don’t know about DSP33 volume but I would think it’s similar to other DSP products.

Tim, if you keep the 561 and get an MS200, somewhere in a cupboard I have a SpeakerLink to SPDIF+C5 Comms adapter if you need one. That would connect the SpeakerLink output on the MS200 to an SPDIF input and comms input on your 561 so that on/off and volume commands worked ok between the 561 and Roon/MS200.

561 has only 48k inputs.

Yes, that's why I'm trying to understand how I would control volume if I connected an MS200 directly to my DSP33 (to get the higher sample rates).
