OK - You don't need to rebuild the database every time you power on the USB and touch. There is a Logitech Media Server database which is stored on the squeezebox touch and updates. Whilst trying to find more about powering down orders etc I read a few comments that said the local server is a bit flakey. With this in mind I would recommend running the touch and hard drive for a few days just to see if it is stable enough to warrant spending more time and/or money in improving its shutdown process. If you can live with it for a couple of weeks then it is worth taking further. Hope that makes some sort of sense.

Cheers
Tom

I'm waiting for it to scan the whole drive and catalog the music. Its painfully slow compared to the PC. I cant even get any audio to play through the G68. I don't know if it has to finish scanning the drive but if the speed is going to be this slow I will abandon it and get a Meridian MC200 or the Cambridge. I like the fact that the Cambridge is a stand alone device and I can use it on any system. I don't know if the MC200 has to be used with a Meridian system.

MC200 has analogue and digital coax output so can be used in any system. I’ve had it plugged directly into a power amp and used the variable output to control volume.

Thanks, Edd

Hi Steve

Just out of interest, do you any streaming services and would you like to use MQA on the near future. The MC200 would give you the one box solution but there may be other ways of getting to your final goal.

E.g. just use the squeezebox and tidal (assuming the vast bulk of your music is on tidal) for now and wait out for developments.

Cheers
Tom

Tom - I don’t think I will ever listen to MQA because of its expense. I’m hoping that Astell&Kern will update their players so I can take advantage of it since I have one. I used to have Tidal but have cancelled it due to the cost. I just buy an album here and there now and mostly stream my music collection since I have 10K songs.

I was looking at Roon like others have suggested but $499 for a lifetime subscription? Seems excessive. I have never used it so I really don’t want to be negative about it. Maybe the best option is to use a QNAP server and a Meridian MS200 so I’m not bound to whatever capacity is in a MC200.

Try Roon properly or go visit someone who has it. There is a difference between cost and the value of what it could bring to your relationship with your collection.

Looking at it now, Roon lIfetime is the cheapest thing I ever bought. I have lost so much more on equipment I can’t use anymore or has no real re sale value. Roon just gets better on a regular basis.

Tidal also saves me a fortune, I can dip into practically any music I want in decent quality. Something that would be impossible without streaming and it’s all integrated beautifully.

Thoughts, Chris

No 18 in the Hall of fame smile I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best: GIK monster bass panels, rear wall.
MC200 500GB, QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into 2 MS200's. Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2 and Mini. 596 v1.89.2, 518, G61R, M60.2 Rosewood, M33C, M33 Rears, M1500 Sub, Foxsat HD, Sony Blu Ray, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos.

The OP clearly stated that he didn’t want to have his PC switched on in order to use SBT: so advocating Roon doesn’t solve his problem.

A suitable NAS running LMS is cheaper than an MC200 or Cambridge CXN.

Isn’t having a NAS running continuously the same as having a PC running, or are you suggesting the NAS is powered down when not being used?

I agree with Chris and would recommend Roon on a NUC running the ROCK OS which is free to download and install.

I don’t mind having a NAS run 24/7 because I can put that in the basement and I won’t hear it but the PC is in my office.
