I'm really surprised there hasn't been more reaction to this, even given this is an M forum.

Is LG making a bold move, making a loss to dominate the high end market at this size or have they been able to significantly cut costs - maybe through opening another plant.

Or perhaps they have struck some kind of deal with Sevenoaks for future product exclusivity in return for a significant contribution to the price reduction.

Or is there a more sinister reason at play that longer term quality isn't quite what it should be and there's no fix so sell them off as quick as possible.

I am still a little sceptical as there is no chatter anywhere I have found on the web - and even Sevenoaks are not advertising this price.

Very interesting and indeed tempting but I'm trying to resist as have my heart set on the 85-88 inch market where I suspect it will still be some time before we see an OLED and I don't feel others have quite cracked it yet with LCD.

Hi Simon

It may have more to do with market realities. I bought a used LG 55" OLED a few months ago... a previous flagship model, 1080p as was my preference, for £500. I believe it's around 3.5 years old and started life at £8000, indeed I remember seeing it in John Lewis upon launch at that price. Within around 18 months LG had lowered it to £5000, then £3500 and latterly I think it was being cleared at £1800. It sounds like this model is following a similar path?

Cheers

George

Also just found that on the US LG site the 77" G7 is listed as $14,999.99 SRP and currently on promotion at $9999.99, which would tie in with the pricing here.

At that screen size, perhaps the issue is that it becomes a bit of a niche market? It's a lot of wall space for the average UK living room...

Cheers

George

If these get down to say, £2-3k, I'm going to have to start measuring up to see if I can physically get one into my basement to replace the projector and 82" screen...

Don’t forget other factors...

CES 2018 will herald the replacement G8.
W Series likely cannibalising G7 sales, and,
Pre Black Friday pricing to shift stock/warehouse space.

You've got to feel for those who bought it at full price! It was always going to come down but 60% off a still current model in less than a year - wow! Here's hoping this years new models at this size start at a more reachable price. I'm still waiting for a great 88 incher - I suspect a couple more years more waiting unfortunately frown.

I've still got my old 2006 Pioneer PDP 5000EX hanging up in my main watching room. I'm tempted by the 55" OLEDs now available but I really can't fit in too much larger a screen.

Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.

Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

Your PDP is 50.5" x 29.5" roughly, but has a thick frame. A LG 65B7 is 57" x 33", so not that much larger. It might fit.

Main System: 861v8+ID41, HD621, 3 x 8KuSE, 4 x M6 Surrounds, Velodyne DD18, Oppo 203, Popcorn Hour A500, Roon.
