I've recently installed 350 metres of utpCAT6 LAN cable for streaming data and audio.

I should have looked into this sooner but will this be ok for streaming hi Rez music to a 218, a couple of MS200's and raspberry pi's. I've just read it should be STP cable...

The ends of the cable are yet to be terminated. Can someone advise if I should change out the cable being used for audio to STP or will the UTP be ok?

Thanks,
Andrew

If it is balanced audio, SpeakerLink, HDBaseT type or extended HDMI video, STP is preferred.

For network data between switches, routers, and endpoints, UTP is sufficient and is much easier to terminate.

Depends on the environment and length of cable runs. I've run long runs of UTP network cable in relatively clean environment (ie not close to mains cable) without any issues - but some people can hear differences in digital audio cables so UTP would be a no-no.

To be sure if you can pull through the cables and replace with STP, then I would do that. Termination should not be a problem if you are terminating in pushdown keystones (ie in wall plates).

Just watch out with long runs of STP, you may only want to terminate at one end if there is a chance that you may have a potential difference across each end, possible if each end is not on the same consumer unit/fuse box.

Thanks Gents,
After looking a bit more into it, the UTP should be fine, there are not any overly long runs, the cables are not running alongside power cables and will be used simply for carrying data from the router to end points. Everything will be tested once terminated.
Cheers,
Andrew
