Apple TV converts everything to 48k, which the Meridian products see as 'film' signals so will load up a film preset.

You could add a phantom source that selects either stereo, direct, Trifield etc.

No Darling, I've had it months!

Despite its supposedly ‘auto’ option, I find that you always have to set the sound output menu to your particular requirements.

If you don’t have a Smart TV, the AppleTV is terrific.

However, if you do have a Smart TV (at least in the UK), the abundance of integral apps is increasingly making the latest AppleTV an irrelevance.

If Apple hadn’t continued their existing policy of crippling its audio output capabilities the ATV would have been an essential audio streamer.

I recently replaced my ATV3.1 with a ‘refurbished’ ATV4K. Whenever I’ve purchased an Apple Refurb product it’s always arrived in a plain white box. This is the first time that such a refurb product has arrived in a retail box.

I plan on buying a 4K television at some point, but the ATV4K works perfectly well on my 720p Plasma. What’s more, previously ‘filmic’ quality television programmes (ATV3) now present themselves in true ‘broadcast video’ quality on the ATV4K. Amazon’s ‘The Grand Tour’ is one such example of this difference (in studio footage).

The point is that you don’t have to buy the ‘standard’ ATV4 if you don’t have a 4K television. The ATV4K sales literature/manual is somewhat ambiguous on this issue.

Also, while PLEX has stopped support for my ageing ReadyNAS, the free Infuse software has no such problem in remotely streaming content to my ATV4K.

I hope the 4K Apple is better than the 4K Amazon Fire I have.

The picture has some really bad artefacts (I run it via a HD621 into an old Pioneer PDP-5000EX) even after adding a HDFury to get them HDCP to work properly.

Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.

Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.
