Sorry if this is a repeat, but a search didn't work for me:

I have an area of the house that is inaccessible via hard wire, but I'd love to run an MS200. Has anyone had success with a wifi to LAN adapter? If so, what device did you use?

Thank you

Why not use ethernet over power?

I had no luck with wifi to Lan adaptor and had to go with ethernet over powerline to get connected.

regards

Chris

Ethernet over power works fine for me also.

I have tested the TP-LINK AC750 Wi-Fi Extender to one of my MS600 and this setup worked without any problems. If I added 100Mbit load on my WiFi there was a drop-out in the Music. Normal surfing on the Wifi caused no problems.

Unfortunately, there's no common power to this endpoint, but Thanks for the idea.

HermanAtHome,
Thank you, I'll check that out.

You mean runs off a different mains supply? If so, hard wired ethernet may cause its own issues with potential differences between either end of the ether. But not an issue in your case but may be for others reading this.

If it is the same mains supply, ethernet over power may still work. The problems seem to be most when the signal passes through more than one RCD (earth leakage circuit breaker) but can often successfully traverse different fuse boxes/consumer units within the limitations of RCD, ie if you have a non RCD protected fuse box and one that is, it may still work. May even work with two protected but at much reduced performance.

I've seen ethernet over power work well where it shouldn't do and, not work well where it should. So very much a case of try it and return if it doesn't work. Devolo 200 is particularly robust in my experience, TP-Link 500 isn't. You don't need much bandwidth for music, so even if it's down on performance, the music should probably still play.

I just inserted a Apple Airport Express in the cabinet next to the MS200 and viola never an issue with dropouts.

Ian,
Thanks for the extra info on the ethernet over power scenarios. It might work. It would be going through two circuit breaker boxes (which I'd incorrectly assumed would be a non-starter).

Still-one,
Thanks for the idea. I tried an Apple Airport Extreme, which achieved great connectivity, with the MS200 showing a solid connection, but didn't work. I'm guessing this is on the M side, so I'll research this more before giving up.

Thanks all

I also use an MS200 over wifi by using an Apple Airport Express. Works fine. No drop-outs.

I also use an MS200 with an Airport Extreme (just because I had an old one spare) with no problems.

I never liked the idea of ethernet-over-power (seems like a really strange thing to do in a house full of hifi dependent on that power) so never tried it.

I suggest you trouble-shoot the Airport Express connection which you find doesn't work. Maybe there is a gremlin which can be easily fixed?

As you're saying, I suspect it's a config issue I haven't identified. I need to dig in on it.

Thanks
