We moved to a new house and the basement where my home theater system lives cannot accomodate my DSP3100 rears speakers. The layout of the floors and ceilings makes it too difficult to hide the wires.

Has anybody just accepted living with a 3.1 movie theater system? I assume there's no way to transmit signals wirelessly - since they need the Comms cables, etc.

What would be the best sound field to use? Any other suggestions?

KEF use to do a wireless 2G product.

I have never used one with a Meridian system before, so have no idea how well it will work.

Now EOL - so you may find one at a good price on line/eBay?

Could you replace the skirting board and hide the cabling behind that?

I've sat through films with the rears turned off without noticing.
May work even better if the processor isn't expecting the rears to be there.

Cheers
Tom

I have run my system for the last 2 years with no rears.

Just haven't got round to installing my ceiling speakers, don't know why as the wires are there, and I have a wall plate fitted behind the amp, just didn't feel I missed them much.

However....I have now swapped my Meridian system for a Marantz for TV duties and think they may be needed as it doesn't fill the room anywhere near as well.

Is there an analog output on my Meridian system where I could plug in the piece of KEF kit?

You have a couple choices:

Put up crown molding and hide your wires behind it.

Use Dynaudio Xeos speakers and their Hub to do it wireless from your G68SL analog out to the hub.

The performance of the Xeos series is very good.

Presumably there would be latency issues, but not insurmountable ?

Presumably, but minimal.

Very little.

Almost like running a pair of rears without EBA on...

It is just a really cheap slimline one, NR1506 or something like that.

I am not bothered about the sounds so much on movies etc. in there, so just use the Marantz thing to do centre and rears etc. and run the pre outs into a Bel Canto stereo amp which has Home Theatre Bypass.

For watching Masterchef and the other tut she has on it is fine.

The reason I mentioned it was the Meridian G68 and DSP5200s filled the room, such a wide soundstage, a wall of sound, it never felt lacking. The Marantz however sounds like it is 3 speakers across the front and I think adding rears to that would help it a lot.

Actually, watched Rogue One with my son the other night.
What a bag o'[censored] the Marantz is!!!!

To be fair it was actually OK, but my god I missed that wrap around smooth sound you get with the Meridian.

It is OK having all these new formats, but vanilla DD on the G68 is a different league to the HD formats on a cheaper receiver.

So the Meridian running 3.1 is back in the rack. laugh
