Apologies if there is already a link to this, but I am thinking it would be easier to run the Roon Core on a laptop than an NUC, so I can easily make use of the screen.

What would the best specification be, bearing in mind the hints of new developments from Roon? i7, 16Gb RAM, 256Gb SSD? I expect this will be mainly used for Tidal/MQA and Internet Radio.

Many thanks,

Richard

Why do you think a laptop would be easier ? If you plan to move the laptop around and take it away from time to time then you will have manage the lack of access to any home based watched folders.

Laptop for client for sure if you want a laptop but a standard i5 NUC for Roon core would still be best bet IMHO.

Thanks Nick,

It would be stationary, but I just thought there would be times where using the screen could be helpful, at least at the point of installing Roon.

With an NUC do you just set it up once with a screen and then use tablets or other PCs to manage Roon? Set all updates to automatic?

Thanks,

Richard

I set my NUC up from a Laptop. No need for a screen, you access NUC via laptop.

No 18 in the Hall of fame smile I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best:
GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. F80

Have a look on the Roon website for the ROCK (Roon OS Core Kit) due for release soon it is a free Linux based OS that will run on a NUC as a near turnkey solution.

That will be my choice when available. Headless and fully configurable via a simple web page.
