Don't know whether it's been mentioned, but I found that more of Solti's Wagner catalogue has been made available in MQA.

Had time to listen to a little of the 1961 Decca Tristan und Isolde, sounds sublime.

Thanks ncpl well worth the enlightening read, and the opportunity to sign up for further MQA posts from Bob Stuart.

Just played Ashley McBryde "Girl Going Nowhere" MQA 48k.
Very good for Americana fans. Would go down a storm at LRB, great voice, great songs and excellent band.
Another insight into small town USA of the relatively recent past.
Will be in UK in October.
Highly Recommended Hector

What I found really interesting as to how far the studios are going to maintain the provenance on some albums, is to go to the 'Browse by Categories'-'White Glove' read the article on 'White Glove:#2 Fairytales.

The level of time and effort that has gone into re-issuing this album in MQA is highly commendable. Knowing fore well it is not a particularly main stream album.

This to me is one of the biggest parts of MQA. Trying to re-produce the 'Original sound'... rectifying the errors that are inherent even on the master tapes.

Looking forward to more of these albums... whether or not its your taste in music, you can appreciate the sound and effort.

Well Done MQA.

In case anyone, like me, missed this, Bernstein's Beethoven Symphonies cycle is now on MQA/Tidal. It's an odd one as it doesn't appear when searching or clicking on Leonard Bernstein as an artist in any of his albums. A search for Bernstein Beethoven Symphonies should bring it up. If not, try Wiener Philharmoniker Bernstein Beethoven 9 Symphonies.

This recording of the Pastoral is famous for it's lovely string sound...

Great tip about the Pastoral; I usually default to Karl Bohm's classic account which is also available MQA, so great to get another option.

But it is bewildering how the albums get tagged. Often the singers are the tag e.g. Gundula Janowitz for the Bernstein 'Fidelio'...not how I would have tagged it.

Still the choice of releases defies understanding...it seems soon we get the Karajan 'Cav & pag', and the Abbado 'Figaro'...why those?

Hoping there will be developments in Munich next week; it's a year now since the partnership with Sony was announced...they have some Bernstein!

Richard,

Yes, the Bohm is also superb, I was listening to his 7th the other day and do continue to love his interpretation.

It is strange which albums they seem to choose, yes, although always fun to discover an unexpected MQA treat to listen to. Sticking with Bernstein, again, why West Side Story, surely the most unhappy collaboration (if you can call it that) between the maestro and poor José Carreras?

Sony have a wealth of Bernstein! Much of which I have on CD, but an MQA white glove would be most welcome. In contrast to the mid-70s Pastoral on Deutche Grammophon, many of those earlier New York recordings can be searingly bright (the Appalachian Spring from that era springs to mind). Whether that’s the recording itself or related to mastering, who knows, but maybe we have a chance to find out once MQA get round to some...
