Thanks guys.

Ludwig - I don't really want to add a PC into the setup, and really would like the benefits of MQA, but out of interest how are you ripping SACDs?

Using this method. It's incredibly easy. Much easier than it looks in the first post. You just need the right kind of SACD player on your network.

I think you are still using Sooloos 2.1, if so you can rip to SACD and then convert to 176kHz which you can at least import into Sooloos even if it down samples it.

Or Use Roon and a £40 rPi to feed the DSD into the 818/808.

DSP SE shows DSD 65 etc as you might expect.

Would be so much neater if the 8x8 could handle it via the ID cards though.

Oh, I didn't know the 818v3 couldn't accept DSD through the ID41/Sooloos, I thought the problem was just ripping the disc. What's the issue with ID41?

That's the 64,000 $ question ... together with why it is still limited to 96KHz ... that only Meridian can answer.

However, I browsed the Tidal MQA google doc and found the same as when I had a Tidal trial - there's proportionally so little classical music, or opera, in their catalogue that it's not worth my subscription as yet.

Not only is the paucity of "classical" titles disappointing but many of the ones we do have are not at a particularly high resolution to show off what MQA can do. I hope this position will change. They could at least give Harnoncourt's Warner titles the MQA treatment, hopefully in hires.

The album on Tidal Monica Heldal "Boy from the North" is listed in the Masters section.

On playing this it is not MQA!!! It states. Quality Tidal, FLAC 44.1kHz 16bit.

Most disappointing that Tidal cannot even get this right. No sign of the MQA version here.

Could anyone confirm my experience. Using Sooloos by the way!

Thanks in advance Hector

Sorry to waste anyones time. Only the first track as a "Single is MQA" totally confusing, however it is rather good.

My point is that under Tidal / Albums / Masters I did not expect to find a "Single" Monica Heldal "Boy From The North" masquerading as an album of the same name.

As I use Tidal account on Sooloos MQA track only became evident when I clicked on "Singles".

I have had very few dropouts on Tidal and could not honestly describe it as erratic just badly designed as an app.

A good start but everything appears to have ground to a halt.

People have suggested that in excess of 9000 albums have received the MQA treatment.

Could anyone speculate when and how these will be available from a streaming source.

Hector

I was about to ask a similar question to Hector's.

Given that so many Warner recordings have been converted to MQA and Tidal has been working on MQA for so long, why are so few available on Tidal and why is it that Tidal doesn't identify all of the MQA albums they do have available? what's going on?

Any thoughts and/or have there been any comments elsewhere which may help to explain?

I also find it disappointing that there has been no further news about Universal or Sony (and others) given Bob's hope that most recordings would be converted (and presumably available) by Easter.

Maybe I'm too impatient but as someone who is experiencing MQA as a major step forward for listening pleasure I am very keen to hear more of it.

As of today from my original post (29 Jan 17) 9 MQA albums have been added to Tidal Masters making a total of 442 available. They seem to have a problem.

However, according to the spreadsheet on the Roon site, over 1300 (last time I looked) MQA albums in total.

Very confusing.
