Before I switch off my Sooloos permanently, I was wondering if I could download/convert/import my playlist history into Roon.

I had several enjoyable years playing back music with Sooloos and would like to try and import it into Roon.

Do you mean the play count for each of your tracks? Or do you have a play queue that you haven't cleared since the beginning? Or do you mean individual named playlists you've created?

I mean the list of plays for my individual songs. the history of what I have played. I know it is a monumental task. But they both seem to use some sort of relational database.

Exporting out the play history from Sooloos and then converting and importing it into Roon ...

Unfortunately not. There is no migration of data between systems as they are built so very differently.

Once you have made the jump you won't worry too much. You get to play with Roon and get immersed in it. You'll soon build playlists again etc. It's not a perfect world but bite the bullet.

The play counts are stored with each album in a text file. Would require a bit of scripting and a suitable Roon API to migrate this data.

Sounds simple doesn't it. The issue is that the Sooloos store isn't what you usually point Roon at so you cannot guarantee the correlation to the play count, import date etc of the txt file.

A typical export folder in normal artist/album/track form is very different to the XX/YY/ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ/track01. You cannot really make an easy correlation.

In early alpha, when Roon was still Sooloos 3.0, we discussed whether Sooloos export could embed the play count and import date into the exported files as a meta tag. That would have worked but unfortunately required cooperation from the Sooloos team with the Roon team. So, it never happened.

I would have liked it but honestly find that I drive music selection in different ways so don't really miss the info. Last.fm is there for continuity if I really want to see what I have played over a long period. I haven't looked at that in ages either.

Play count in Roon is due for some improvements in 1.3 (FYI)

Nick
