Have you checked (in Sooloos Config) what is actually happening to the ID40?

I have had a recent problem whereby the ID40 would happily stay booted up for as long as you like but the moment it was asked to play audio it would crash - disappearing from Sooloos Config and requiring a reset to reboot and reappear. This turned out to be caused by another card that was faulty which was perturbing supply line voltages.

What do you have the ID40 in? Does it work if moved to another processor? (mine worked in my 861v8 but not the v4 with the offending card). Check power supplies too.

Nick

Nick,

Thank you.

The ID40 is in an 861v4 with a (pretty much) brand new LPS installed by M.

My hobby is electronics and I can tell you that things often fail when new or nearly so (and after repair go on like the majority that don't fail early on!), so power might be a problem (when the LPS was fitted was the small capacitor on the fascia switch PCB changed for the DS1813-5 guardian chip?).

Two approaches. Look at Sooloos config and see whether you can see if the ID40 is crashing and if it is what circumstances are causing it. Second, try the v4 with the bare minimum of cards (and the ID40 in the advised slots). Don't forget that v4s need termination cards (one or two depending on which other cards you have). If the ID40 works in a minimal configuration then (obviously) introduce cards one by one until it doesn't. Good luck.

I'm running the latest (I think) version of Sooloos Configuration (v30).

When I play a track in Control:PC it just sits there and says "Loading" on the Control:PC. The same tracks load pretty much immediately and play fine on other zones.

I'm not sure what I should be looking for in the Sooloos Configuration programme. The ID40 shows up and all that happens when I click it is it tells me I have the choice of DHCP or not. It tells me the IP address (which is in the correct subnet to the rest of my Sooloos kit), that it's Version 1.3 Device Build 168.

There's seemingly no other diagnostic capability in this programme? The ID40 certainly seems to be stable (ie not disappearing and reappearing) in the programme window.

It seems the ID40 is not crashing when asked to play audio which is good (this is why Sooloos Config is useful because, if it were crashing, you would see the ID40 entry in Config behaving oddly or even disappearing).

Check carefully the network connections to the ID40 and from it to your router or network switch because even though you can see the ID40 via its web interface and in Sooloos Config it may be that the connection is lossy enough to stop Sooloos working (hence why wifi is hard to use with Sooloos).

If you are sure the network is OK then it looks like time to try the card in an alternative processor.

I'll PM you about this.

Sorry to revive old post, but I am having same problem with my recently received 861v8 with ID40.

It appears in Roon, the volume control on the app changes the volume on the 861, so the thing is still connected to the network. Likewise, changing volume on the 861 shows the new volume in the Roon App, so it is a two way conversation.

However, no sound comes out. The display says Roon PCM 44KHz, but no sound.

I'm wondering if I set up the 861 correctly? I couldn't figure out how to enable the NET input on the remote, so I put a Sooloos device in the config and connected that to it.

Maybe this story can help.

I have that possibilities to stream music:

First my wiring for the network.
Starting from outside the house, the landline cable come from the phone company and get into my house. There is a integrated modem with router that support all my private and company network except audio. For audio a second router is connected on the output of the first router in the cellar and a cable runs up into my music room. The cable go further into a network distribution box and then to three network audio devices.

Meridian 861v6 with ID40; a Meridian 218 and a Trinnov Amethyst.

I have sometimes problems with instability after I had to switch the main power off without do a correct shutdown of the network. The reasons are some lighting here that appears very fast, therefore I have to power down the main switches and support lines to my music room ASAP.

When the network have some problems after power up again, the best thing is to do:

- Disconnect the mains from all network Equipment
- Disconnect the incoming cable from your phone/internet provider and leave it disconnected at least 15 minutes. The provider recognize that and will then rest the modem and install new firmware (if that is necessary) when the modem is switched on again.
- Connect the income cable and wait some minutes(the network supplier recognize that and get prepared)
power up the combined modem/router and switch it on.
- Wait some minutes until all lights are flash lighting in the correct way.
- Connect and switch on the second router and wait
- Switch on all network music source one after the other and wait some minutes for each device
- Ping all music network sources
- Start roon on the core PC
- Press clear on 861
- Start the Meridian app on the remote(iPad)
- Start the Roon app on your remote
- Choose a network music source with the Meridian app
- Verify that the same source is active on the Roon app
- Choose music

It's seldom that I have to do that, but when I do not do ALL of that, maybe only make some pings or power up network player, it could be that that instability can appears. Maybe like sources work, seconds later gone or do not play even when I see the play-graph in Roon moving.

Try it out, maybe you have success.
Good luck

In Meridian Config add the ID40 card to the 818v8 so it has a 'Net' input bottom left.

Then add a 'Sooloos System' as a source which will have a 'Net' output

Then connect the two by clicking on one 'Net' and dragging to the other 'Net'

I'd do this first off in the config, so it can grab the 'Aux' (SLS) source as this is the default Sooloos Input.
You can check that by right cliking the 861, go to Properties and Sources.
Check the AUX source Audio Input is showing as ID40#1:Net

Try making a new config from scratch if you're having issues.
